APRIL 5, 2015 ST. MARY GATE OF HEAVEN CHURCH PAGE 3 On Holy Thursday evening, we gathered to celebrate the life of Jesus offered to us in Eucharist, the love of Jesus symbolized for us in the washing of the feet, and the peace of Jesus found in his presence in the Blessed Sacrament as we place it in repose, and in the silence watched darkness cover the earth. On Good Friday, we gathered to remember the triumph of death and sorrow, and despair - the sun eclipsed, planets paralyzed, the mountains amazed - as, in bloody crucifixion Jesus dies. On Holy Saturday, we, as a church, prolonged our experience of despair, sorrow, and death - in the stillness of a spring garden, at a borrowed tomb, as we kept vigil. And on Sunday, messengers in dazzling garments proclaimed that Christ has conquered, that glory fills the earth, that darkness vanished forever. On Easter Sunday, with the whole of the earth and all creation, we rejoice and exalt in peace that can never be broken, in love than can never be foresworn, in life that will never die - the morning star has come back from the dead. The risen savior shines upon us! The three days of the Easter Triduum gave us the opportunity to see human life as it really is - back and forth between despair and hope, sorrow and peace, death and life. And we see human life as it is; we are called to make a choice. We can be crushed by sorrow, or we can choose to rise to the love offered us. We can close ourselves off in bitterness, or we can choose to rise to the peace offered by the hand that is always outstretched to us. These holy days proclaim to us, that in the middle of despair, sorrow and death within human life, God made a choice. And God - in the midst of pain chose peace, and love and life in the resurrection of Jesus. There is reason to hope! Between death and life, God has made a choice. But what, this Easter season, shall we choose?

APRIL 5, 2015 ST. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. The Paschal Mystery is the key to our Christian faith: the dying and rising of Jesus that is the pattern of our life. In their first steps on the road of faith, the catechumens feel the cross of glory traced over their eyes, on their lips, across their shoulders, on their ears, over their heart, and on their feet. The mystery is that even death gives way to life for those who are held in the embrace of Jesus. Today, many new Christians arise from the waters of the font. During Holy Saturday s Easter Vigil Celebration at 8:00 PM, Lalita Paul, Yaneris Carbone, Disseyra Mina and Linda Mazzullo became full members of the Church. It is with special joy that we welcome them. We also congratulate Joseph Carbone, Mildred Cuvertino-Crespo, Frank DePaola, Anthony Mina, Lisette Ramos, and Jonathan Ramos who celebrated First Communion and/or Confirmation. We would like to express our appreciation to the RCIA members for all their prayers and assistance in helping them prepare for this special grace filled event. This Week s Remembrance The Sanctuary Candle In Memory of Marvin Rojas Donated by his Friends at SMGH The Food Pantry will be open on Thursday, April 9th. The Blessed Mother Sodality will be collecting NEW Pajamas for children living in homeless shelters. Boy or girl sizes that will fit infants to 18 years old will be collected. Please bring items to the April 12th meeting or leave your donation at the rectory.
