This approach to University Education led to around three quarters of our students graduating from our undergraduate courses with either a 2:1 or First Class Honours degree in 2013. OUR CAMPUS UCLan urnley has been developed around a strong partnership between urnley College and the University of Central Lancashire that has been in place for over 20 years. The campus itself is now in its fifth year of delivering first class education and is the only University within the heart of Pennine Lancashire. The iconic campus boasts industry standard facilities and innovative research to support the learning and growth of the local community. OUR COURSES We offer a large range of specialist programmes at varying levels, from foundation to postgraduate level, and offer numerous courses which are unique to UCLan urnley. All of our courses have been designed to meet the needs of the local economy and to help each student fulfil their career aspirations. Whether you are just leaving college or sixth form, have been out of the education system for a number of years, or are developing your employability skills, we will have a course to suit you. OUR FACILITIES All our courses address the skills and knowledge needed in today s economy and students are taught in specialised rooms to give them transferable skills to the real world. The town hosts a successful football club, with a legion of passionate followers across the country, as well as an array of outdoor activities, including forests, reservoirs, canals and parks. There are a variety of stately homes, museums and national trust locations, including Towneley Hall, Gawthorpe Hall, Weavers Triangle and Queen Street Mill, the latter of which was used as a location for the Oscar award winning King s Speech in 2010. The town also plays host to the annual urnley International Rock and lues Festival, which takes place each May, and features artists from around the world playing in locations across the town. The town s pubs and clubs host a variety of special events aimed at the town s growing student population. Class Environment The new UCLan urnley campus first opened its doors in 2009, showcasing a purpose built, state of the art campus, with first class facilities and resources available across all areas. TEACHING FACILITIES Our range of teaching facilities includes interactive whiteboard and full lecture recording facilities in every teaching and IT Lab. Specialist facilities include a purpose built recording studio and radio station, a Moot Court Room and access to law reports obtained from the House of Lords Library, a Sports Massage Clinic, media creation and editing equipment, a specialist creative Fashion Studio and usiness Incubation Unit, Performance Studio, with industry stage management equipment and an Advanced Digital Manufacturing Technology Centre. SPORT All UCLan urnley students have free access to our first-rate sports facilities. The campus Sports Centre incorporates a sports hall, state-of-the-art fitness suite and a climbing wall which meets the criteria for outward bound courses. Outdoor facilities include a UEFA standard, full-sized outdoor 3G pitch and a five-a-side multi-use pitch. You will also benefit from specialist coaching from experienced professionals to maximise your performance in whichever sport you excel. Fees & Finance UCLan urnley offers a high quality university experience, with a range of first class programmes, whilst also providing good value for money. Our teaching, support and facilities are of the highest standard and we offer good value by keeping our fees low, in order to ensure that a first class university education can be accessed by everyone. FULL TIME TUITION FEES Tuition fees for full time programmes at UCLan urnley are currently 7,000* per year for Honours degrees and 6,000* per year for Foundation degrees. Tuition fee loans, maintenance loans and grants are available from Student Finance England to cover the cost of tuition fees and help towards living costs. Raven Nelson STUDYING LL (Hons) Law I am working towards a in LL (Hons) Law Studying Law at UCLan urnley has really helped me to realise my ambitions, and is a fantastic springboard for my future career. The small class sizes have meant that I have really benefitted from the time I have spent in lessons, and my tutor knows my learning style and works with that. Our Courses Explained FOUNDATION ENTRY Foundation Entry courses are a preparatory year of a degree for those who do not have the academic requirements for direct entry and/or those who have been out of education for a while and need to refresh their study skills, before embarking on the first year of the course. ACCREDITED PRIOR LEARNING (APL) OR ACCREDITED PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING (APEL) APL is based on the premise that a number of applicants to UCLan urnley will already have experience within their chosen field, and we welcome this on most courses. POSTGRADUATE AND MASTERS PROGRAMMES Postgraduate programmes, such as Postgraduate Certificates and Masters Degrees, are designed for those who already hold a A/Sc honours degree. These programmes are suitable for those who wish to pursue a specific career, such as teaching, or who wish to continue their studies. A/Sc/Eng DEGREES These are full degree programmes which prepare you for employment, entry to graduate schemes or postgraduate study. You can access our degree courses on a full time or part time basis. Most full-time courses require 15 hours study time in class each week. FOUNDATION DEGREES, HNC AND HND PROGRAMMES These are university level programmes, combining both academic and vocational skills, designed to improve your career prospects and earning potential in industry. Over two thirds of UCLan urnley students progress and topup with further study to achieve a full honours degree after completing a Foundation Degree here at the campus, usually with just one further year of study. Alternatively these qualifications enable students to successfully enter employment within their chosen field. The programme is designed to enable students to become effective community leaders within various professional situations. It follows a three stage learning process: theoretical perspectives, application of theory in practice, and reflection on application. The programme will engage the student in acquiring transferable skills in leadership and management, whilst also allowing them to explore concepts relating to community within a broader social and cultural context.
