COURSE SELECTION SPRING 2015 FASHION DESIGN & PATTERN-MAKING Mondays, March 1 April 27, 6 8 pm TBA Using a combination of draping and flat pattern techniques, you ll learn to manipulate your basic sloper into a huge variety of styles and silhouettes. Sleeves, collars, and bodice variations will be covered. You can make anything you can imagine, and it will fit perfectly! Tuition - $395 BEGINNING FASHION CONSTRUCTION Tuesdays, March 1 April 27, 6 8 pm Eliza Jean Chan Even if you ve never sewn before, you ll leave the class with a finished garment! You ll learn a variety of clothing construction skills, machine and hand sewing, serging and seam finishes. You lllearn to read patterns and how to select and cut fabric. FASHION DESIGN The Fashion Design Certificate Program offers a foundation in Fashion Design and Construction. Students will learn the skills and techniques needed to realize and communicate their unique visions. The program is perfect for students seeking to create a fashion portfolio for applying to college level fashion programs. Students will learn the skills necessary to create their own individual designs, whether for sale or personal expression. The curriculum provides a strong foundation for anyone interested in working in any aspect of the fashion industry. They will learn the fundamentals of task, ambient and direct lighting. Projects will address designing and solving lighting challenges in any given space. Tuition - $395.00 FABRICS & FINISHES FOR INTERIORS Tuesdays, March 1 April 27, 6 8 pm Neda Couzens This course provides an overview and understanding of the selection of Fabrics & Finishes used in interiors on furniture, walls, floors, window treatments and more. Particular attention is paid to the selection of materials that provide better indoor air quality and help to create a greener planet. Tuition - $395.00 FURNITURE STYLES & APPLICATION Wednesdays, March 1 April 27, 6 8 pm TBA Explore important elements of furniture styles, the history of furniture (from Egyptian to Contemporary) and the relevance of style in today s interiors. You ll explore the history of digital art along with learning imaging software like Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash, and Macromedia Dreamweaver. You ll apply this knowledge and these skills to creative projects throughout the term. Tuition - $395 lab fee $40 DESKTOP PUBLISHING WITH INDESIGN Tuesdays, March 1 April 27, 6-8 PM TBA This course introduces InDesign, a desktop publishing software that can format large quantities of styled information. Combining text and graphics, InDesign can allow the user to create advertisements, brochures, newsletters and announcements that are ready for printing. DIGITAL DESIGN Today s designers must know current technologies and be able to utilize them in creating fresh and exciting imagery. Our Digital Design classes emphasize design and creativity while providing intensive technical training. Instruction is flexible and inclusive. Hands on instruction with teachers who use these programs every day in their professional life make learning easy. These courses are perfect for professionals looking to expand their skills, high school students creating a portfolio, or those interested in personal enrichment. Courses may be taken in any order. COMING IN SUMMER 2015 These courses are designed for High School students, grades 9 12. SEWING + FASHION CONSTRUCTION In this course you will learn the skills to create actual garments. You ll explore the basic principles of design and will learn about selecting and preparing patterns and fabrics. Basic sewing skills will be covered, such as seam finishes and closures. By the end of the course, you will have created and sewn your very own finished garment! FASHION DESIGN DRAWING All fashion begins as an idea! This course will show you how to express your ideas clearly and with style. You will explore the design process, learning to use color, line and texture to create unique designs. You will learn to use the fashion figure, as well as rendering techniques for a variety of silhouettes and textiles. You will leave the course with a portfolio quality piece of original fashion design artwork! LIFE DRAWING + PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT This course will get you ready for the art school admission process! The course will consist of weekly assignments and critiques. The assignments will range from observational and figure drawing to mixed media and content driven work. In our critiques and discussions, you ll develop the ability to talk about your own work and be ready for the college interview process.
