Frequently Asked Questions How should I determine what type of treatment I want? Before your treatment begins, you and your therapist will discuss your needs and goals and together you will decide upon a treatment plan. Often, a session will consist of more than one type of therapy. How should I plan my time? Allow for a few minutes at the beginning of your appointment to discuss your treatment plan with the therapist. Your therapist will then spend your full session with the hands on treatment and, post-massage, will answer any questions you may have. What should I wear? Once you have decided upon a treatment plan, your therapist will work with you discreetly regarding draping during your session. Hangers are available for your clothes. So, come as you are; everything you need will be provided. If I want to work out while I m there, should I do that before or after my massage? If you wish to work out, it is best to do so before your massage session. Leave enough time between the end of your workout and your massage to allow your body to cool down slightly (stop perspiring).
Therapy Options Swedish Massage Uses long, fluid and gliding strokes, kneading strokes, focused friction and toning movements. Its benefits include aiding in the flow of fluids, bringing nutrients to the tissues while eliminating toxins, passive stretching and lengthening of muscles, lowering blood pressure while increasing blood flow, and it feels great! This therapy provides the total relaxation and rejuvenation aspect of massage. Deep Tissue/Trigger Point/Neuromuscular Therapy/Acupressure/Sports Massage Utilizes deeper pressure on specific points on the body. Direct extended pressure, deep muscle stretching and lengthening, lifting and sifting, addressing knots and adhesions and releasing tight muscles and knots are examples of these therapies. These strokes provide therapy for specific injuries or chronic conditions. Pre-Natal Massage An adaptation of the above therapies designed for the unique needs of a woman who is expecting. It incorporates all precautions necessary for each trimester and includes strokes and techniques specific for the body as it adjusts to pregnancy. Light Touch Therapy Light touch therapies such as Reiki employ a more subtle, yet effective approach to bodywork. It is generally done on a massage table with the client fully dressed. Reiki works with the human energy field and the Eastern system of energy meridians (acupuncture points). It also can be incorporated into a massage session, usually at a point on the body that requires deep healing or relaxation. Aromatherapy Essential oils may be added to help your healing process.
