Matthew F. Bartels, MD, FAAP, CPE, Clinical Quality Matthew F. Bartels, MD, is medical director of clinical quality. He participates in the development and implementation of planwide quality projects and is also the medical director for oversight of case and disease management. He graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and continued his training at the University of Virginia Medical Center. There he completed a pediatric residency and is currently board-certified in pediatric medicine. Dr. Bartels is a member of the American Medical Association, the Erie County Medical Society, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the Buffalo Pediatric Society and a Certified Physician Executive through the American College of Physician Executives. Area of Focus: Clinical Quality Allan Birnbaum, MD Allan Birnbaum, MD, is a medical director with a focus on Medicare and government programs for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Griepp, MD, is the chief medical officer for behavioral health and focuses on adult psychiatry for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Boardcertified in psychiatry, Dr. Griepp maintains a private practice in psychiatry. She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University and entered the family medicine residency at Marquette University in Michigan. Dr. Griepp completed her psychiatry residency and a neuropsychiatry fellowship at the University of Rochester. Martin Lustick, MD Senior Vice President, Corporate Martin Lustick, MD, senior vice president and corporate medical director for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, leads the medical services department. As a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Lustick was in clinical pediatric practice for 17 years. He also served as the chief operating officer for Kaiser Permanente in the Mid-Atlantic states. Katherine McCarthy, MD Katherine McCarthy, MD, is a medical director for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
