Lessans 6 th Annual Healthcare Symposium On The Horizon: New Approaches to Alzheimer s Prevention, Treatment and Research Friday, April 15, 2016 KEYNOTE SPEAKER SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES RICHARD S. ISAACSON, MD Richard Isaacson, MD, is an associate professor of neurology and director of the Alzheimer s Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He is also a respected author of Alzheimer s Treatment Alzheimer s Prevention: a Patient & Family Guide and most recently, The Alzheimer s Diet: A step-by-step nutritional approach for Memory Loss Prevention & Treatment. Significant advances have been made in our understanding of how nutrition relates to brain heath and Alzheimer s disease (AD) over the last decade. Dr. Isaacson will give an overview of the recent evidence and share lessons learned through treating people with a family history of AD and other dementias to lower their risk in the Alzheimer s Prevention Clinic (APC) at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. In the clinic, evidence-based clinical care is personalized with respect to risk factors such as genetics, medical conditions, body measurements, and lab studies (e.g., inflammatory, metabolic, cholesterol, and nutritional biomarkers) and cognitive function with assessments every six months. Patients are also comprehensively educated via a free online patient education and education/behavioral research portal ( and use the AD-Nutrition Tracking System, an online database and lifestyle management tool. An overview of the Dietary Intervention to Prevent and Slow Memory Loss due to Alzheimer s (DIPLOMA) study will also be discussed.
2 BREAK OUT SESSION SPEAKERS JASON BRANDT, PhD, ABPP (CN) Jason Brandt, PhD, was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He obtained his undergraduate education at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and then went on to obtain his master s and doctoral degrees in experimental and physiological psychology from Boston University. Since 1981, Dr. Brandt has been on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins University, where he is currently professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, professor of Neurology, and director of the Division of Medical Psychology in the School of Medicine. He is also professor in the Department of Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and director of the Cortical Function Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Brandt s research focuses on the neuropsychology of memory and other cognitive disorders as they appear in Alzheimer s disease, Huntington s disease, and other dementia syndromes. He has developed several widely-used neuropsychological tests, including the Hopkins Verbal Learning Test - Revised and the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status. Dr. Brandt has also investigated the cognitive changes associated with epilepsy and its treatments, the psychological consequences of genetic testing for neuropsychiatric disorders, and improved methods for neuropsychological assessment. He has published more than 320 articles and book chapters on these and related topics. PAUL DASH, MD Paul Dash, MD, is a neurologist at the Johns Hopkins Memory and Alzheimer Treatment Center and an instructor of medicine at The Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Dash received his medical degree from University of California Irvine and completed his residency in neurology at University of California San Diego School of Medicine. He was in private practice in California and at Louisiana State University in New Orleans before moving to Johns Hopkins in He is board-certified in neurology, and his special interests include cognitive disorders and neurology.
3 DAMIEN JAY DOYLE, MD/FAAFP/CMD Dr. Doyle is a board certified Family Practice and Geriatrics physician. He completed his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Wisconsin Madison before pursuing a Family Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill program in Greensboro and a Geriatrics Fellowship at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After moving to the Washington DC area in 2001, he was in private practice in Northern Virginia for several years before moving to the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in He directed the outpatient clinics and assisted living facility at Hebrew Home until 2008 when he assumed the role of Medical Director of the Hebrew Home campus. In 2011 he became medical director of Evercare MidAtlantic (now Optum Health) overseeing care of enrollees in over 65 facilities in Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia, in addition to a large and growing community based program. In September of 2015 he moved to Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC to help implement and oversee the new Medicare Advantage MD program. He continues to see geriatrics patients at the Landow House Assisted Living Facility of Hebrew Home. MAJID FOTUHI, MD, PhD Majid Fotuhi received his MD degree (cum laude) from Harvard Medical School, as a member of the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST) and his doctoral PhD degree in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. He is currently the medical director of the NeuroGrow Brain Fitness Center. He also serves as the chief medical officer for the Neurocore Brain Performance Center, an affiliate staff at Johns Hopkins Howard County General Hospital, and a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. In the past, he served as an assistant professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins, as director of the Center for Memory and Brain Health at Sinai Hospital, and as the chief medical officer at NeurExpand Brain Center.
4 ANN MORRISON, PhD, RN, CS Ann Morrison is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on dementia and caregiving issues. Dr. Morrison is a former faculty member of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Neurology. She was the director of The Johns Hopkins Alzheimer s Treatment and Memory Center Caregiver Family Program, the Millicent Radlick Nurse Scholar at the Copper Ridge Institute (Sykesville, Maryland), and the Education Specialist for the Alzheimer s Disease Research Center at Johns Hopkins. In her current role Dr. Morrison is a Faculty member at the Copper Ridge Institute and the Director of Morrison and Associates Consulting. As an education specialist, Dr. Morrison has lectured extensively on biological topics related to Alzheimer s disease, care and management of individuals with dementia as well as sociological topics related to Alzheimer s disease caregivers and families. Her background in nursing, sociology, research, and education provides a rich basis for her role as mentor/master clinician to nursing, social work, medical and gerontological students. SAPNA PATEL Sapna Patel is director of Clinical Services for Advanced Patient Care. She holds a B.S in pharmacy from The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. Advanced Patient Care, servicing Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC areas, fills a void in the vulnerable population to reduce re-admissions. She works with patients who are on multiple medications to keep them healthy at home. She is currently working on an MTM project with Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County for low income residents to measure and identify best practices.
5 MATTHEW RUDORFER, MD Matthew V. Rudorfer, MD is associate director for Treatment Research and head of the Psychopharmacology and Somatic Treatments Program in the Division of Services and Intervention Research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). In this position Dr. Rudorfer helps oversee and provide scientific liaison to several multisite clinical trials, including those studying personalized treatment of geriatric depression and the use of brain stimulation treatments in psychiatry. Program chair of an annual treatment research meeting for a dozen years, Dr. Rudorfer is also past editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed Psychopharmacology Bulletin. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of ECT and CNS Drugs. Board Certified in Psychiatry and Clinical Pharmacology, Dr. Rudorfer received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and trained in psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis before coming to NIH. At present he maintains a small private practice in psychiatry and psychopharmacology. NICHOLAS SCHOR, MD Nicholas Schor, MD, has been in private practice in Montgomery County since completing his psychiatric residency at Johns Hopkins in He specializes in house calls for patients with dementia who are experiencing behavioral and psychiatric symptoms related to their disease. Dr. Schor is the current president of the Washington DC branch of the American Geriatrics Society and has served on the Board of Directors and Ethics Committee of the Washington Psychiatric Society. He is a member of MENSA and the author of the forthcoming book, Navigating the Mental Health System: A Time and Money Saving Guide for Patients, Families, and Loved Ones.

Mr. de Vilmorin holds a Master's Degree in Communication, Culture, and Technology from Georgetown University, a Master's Degree in International Management from Dauphine University, Paris, and a BBA Hon s in European Management from Lancaster University UK. MEAGHAN MCMAHON, MSW Meaghan McMahon is the director of outreach and communication Washington DC Aging2.0 Chapter. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology from Cornell University where she graduated magna cum laude. Following graduation, she attended the University of Michigan School of Social Work as a Geriatric Scholar and in 2011 earned her Master of Social Work degree. In her consulting practice, she works with government agencies, for-profit, not-for-profit, and start-up organizations in both the Washington DC metro area and in San Francisco.
