Here are some quotes from this year: "Thank you and everybody who works so hard to make this day a real success! It is the best!" - Debbie Washington, Career and College Specialist, Truman High School "Loved the day." - Anita Rhodes, Guidance Support Specialist, Decatur High School "When my students got back to class they all said it was a great show." - Richard Ely, Rainier Beach High School "Thank you for arranging the Construction Career Day, it was fantastic! All of our students loved having the opportunity to find out more about these great career opportunities. All of our South Lake High School students were amazed that they were able to try out first hand, the power equipment and this was huge for them. It showed them that they can do this with the proper training. We thank everyone for putting on such an eye-opening, hands-on career fair, it was so worthwhile." - Barbara Quintana, College/Career Specialist, South Lake High "We again had a great time. We felt lucky to be the first group on the heavy equipment having them all to ourselves for an hour was heavenly. Our students were able to get on every piece of equipment." - Jean Johnson, Career Specialist, Juanita High School "All 4 schools reported that this field trip is one of the most highly anticipated and most valuable events that the students get the opportunity to attend each year."- Maria Callaway, Renton School District, Career & Life Skills Education Challenges & Opportunities (What we can do better) We plan to change the lunch program to allow students to have an earlier and shorter lunch break (staggered) and give them more opportunities to participate in the hands-on activities. Start committee meetings earlier in year. Increase the number of certified safety professional on-site to enhance safety standards. Increase the number of construction industry professional and technical career occupation participation. Increase the number of volunteers. Increase Community and Technical college participation. 7
