4 Monthly Member Calls Launched in October 2013, Washington Nonprofits Monthly Member Calls have engaged 90 individuals from 78 organizations. Some members are regular participants, while others drop in on topics of interest to them. It was good to hear how others are meeting some of the big challenges of running a nonprofit. We face many of the same issues in management, fund-raising, succession planning, etc. The calls provide a terrific mutual-support network. 5 Building Advocacy Capacity Washington Nonprofits strengthens the capacity of nonprofits to advocate for their mission. We hone the skills of nonprofit staff and board members and connect organizations to larger networks in ways that make communities better able to tackle their most pressing issues. Community Impact Initiative Washington Nonprofits is working with First Lady Trudi Inslee to grow strong cross-sector networks within communities across Washington. The Community Impact Initiative helps nonprofits working collaboratively within communities to demonstrate and communicate impact on complex social problems. We align state and local policy and budget decisions so that the frontline work of nonprofits connects to state initiatives and policy decisions. In , WN organized two First Lady community visits in Thurston and Whatcom Counties, and a third visit in Spokane is scheduled for September Leveraging the influence of the First Lady and her interest in nonprofit effectiveness, these visits have convened a wide range of local leaders and officials around the topics of education, health and food security. Together, we are building effective platforms for collaborative action.. Nonprofit Maps Washington Nonprofits capitalizes on state and federal data sets to tell the story of nonprofits in Washington in a way that deepens understanding of the challenges and opportunities in which they are operating. We connect data related to nonprofits with data on such topics as health and education in order to show visually how nonprofits can best work towards greater impact. In , Washington Nonprofits produced a series of maps to inform federal, state, and local officials about nonprofits. We will be expanding this work over the next year. Nonprofits Statewide Nonprofit Ecosystem Legislative District Map Congressional District Map Advocacy Training Bringing the work of our advocacy and education staff together, Washington Nonprofits developed a hands-on advocacy curriculum for the Chelan Nonprofit Practices Institute in May This curriculum will serve as the framework for WN s advocacy training statewide. 5
