Here are some of their stories.. Samuel Agube Samuel is originally from Nigeria and was born to a very strong catholic family. He is in the USA courtesy of his wife Emem Kenneth Abarah, who is a citizen of the USA by birth. He became a Knight in November of last year and plans to continue to at least full Knighthood. James Epling James became a First Degree Knight last September 10 th, five days later he attained full Knighthood by completing his 2 nd and 3 rd Degrees. A YEAR OF CELEBRATION Pope John XXIII came from a humble background. His parents had neither wealth nor fame. They had a gift that far exceeded wealth and fame...it was the gift of faith. The extended family helped this young boy receive an education and thus fostered the gifts of intellect that God gave him in abundance. While being extremely intellectual, Pope John XXIII was also very relational and very comfortable with people but especially ordinary family people just like you and me. He never forgot his humble roots and when he was elevated to the papacy, he helped to initiate Vatican II and simplify many areas of Church liturgy that previously had been very complicated. The biggest gift I believe Vatican II gave us was the gift of the Holy Mass celebrated in the vernacular (the language of the people). Our Holy Father understood the need for people to speak to God in their own language and to pray with the priest in a language they understood and loved. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vatican II let us pause to remember this extraordinary man.
