EL CAMINO COLLEGE DIVISION OF HEALTH, SCIENCES & ATHLETICS ABOUT THE PROGRAM: This program is a diagnostic medical radiography program leading to an A.S. Degree and eligibility to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Registry Exam (ARRT) for an R.T. license. At this time, the El Camino College Radiologic Technology Program does not offer specialized courses in FLUOROSCOPY for a State License. The fluoroscopy courses are integrated within the Program Courses. This program does not offer separate courses in Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, MRI or CT. The Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree Radiologic Technology program is twenty-five months in length. The program consists of four regular semesters, two eight week summer sessions, and one eight week post session. The clinical (hospital) training portion of the program parallels the academic courses. Satisfactory completion of degree and certificate requirements qualifies students for State and National Certification examinations. The Radiologic Technology Program is fully accredited, having met requirements of The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and the Radiologic Health Branch of the California Department of Health Services. Radiologic Technology Program Courses must be taken in sequence, and each course must be completed with a minimum grade of "C". Applicants with prior training or experience in Radiologic Technology may petition for credit by examination for RT-A, RT#111, RT#106, and RT#107. Each applicant will be evaluated on an individual basis. High School Graduation; (GED, or higher degree) PRE - APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Radiologic Technology A, Anatomy #32 and Physiology 31, or Anatomy and Physiology 3A and 3B * Physiology 31 has a prerequisite of Anatomy 30 or 32 and Chemistry or 20 or 21A, Anatomy and Physiology 3A has a prerequisite of Chemistry or 20 or 21A Prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum grade of "C". (Recommended: Anatomy and RTEC A be taken within 5 years of application date) GPA of 2.25+; (Post high school courses) IOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY (Medical X-ray) El Camino College District ensures equal access to its services, classes and programs without regard to race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, handicap, sex or service as a Vietnam-era veteran. 1 REV 9/09 DC

ADMISSION INTO THE PROGRAM Students are admitted into the program by an application process. Applications are available throughout the year in the Program Director s office, (Phys 116A). The Date of Completed Application is the first criterion in the selection of students for the program. *See Application Procedure sheet for additional information A limited number of students are admitted into the program annually. Class size is determined by the availability of clinical space. Qualified applicants, who apply after a class is filled, may be placed on a Waiting List. Those on the "Waiting List" will be admitted in the order of application date, number of completed courses and points from clinical observations hours or work experience. It is expected that applicants should complete all General Education and Program Major courses prior to starting the program. (see pg. 3) This can be used as a consideration for acceptance when there are a large number of applicants. The length of the program and the number of hours required for both the clinical and academic courses allows very little time for other courses. PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION Refer to the CURRENT El Camino College Catalog; See (Section 1) for college admission procedures. Questions concerning appropriate forms, dates, fees and College registration procedures should be directed to the office of admissions and records. Arrange with the College Testing center to take the English and Math Placement Tests Schedule an appointment with a COLLEGE COUNSELOR During the process of completing the last Prerequisite Course (the last month of the semester) Make an appointment to obtain an application with the Program Director: Mrs. Dawn Charman, (310) 660-3593 ext 327; Appointment times are generally scheduled from 2 weeks after the end of each semester Students will be notified by email of starting date There is a mandatory orientation class in the summer prior to starting the program in the Fall you will be notified of the time and day. TRANSFER CREDIT Students wishing to transfer from another Radiologic Technology program must contact the Program Director for assessment. Advanced standing will be determined following the submission and evaluation of course descriptions, official transcripts, and verification of clinical experience. Students must comply with the Rules of Ethics contained in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Standard of Ethics. The Rules of Ethics are minimally acceptable standards of professional conduct for all presently Registered Technologists and Applicants. The Rules of Ethics are intended to promote the protection, safety and comfort of patients. The A.R.R.T. may deny applications for certification if the applicant has been found guilty of dishonesty, fraud, deceit, acts which deceive the public, felony, child abuse, sex offender crimes; acts involving narcotics, dangerous drugs or devices, assault and/or battery and other crimes. Applicants having questions regarding limitations related to licensure should contact: THE AMERICAN REGISTRY OF IOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS 1255 NORTHLAND DRIVE ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA 55120-1155 TEL: (651) 687-008 Web Site: www.arrt.org For a Pre-Application Packet ==================================================================== RE: Requests for Criminal Background Checks as of January 200, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals Organizations (JCAHO) added a new standard for its accreditations involving personal background checks on all persons involved in direct patient care, which can include employees, volunteers and students. HR 1.20 & Title 5, section 58106 allows districts to establish limitations on enrollment for various reasons including to protect health and safety. Effective Fall 2005 semester, criminal background checks for all newly admitted students will be implemented. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for admission and continuation in all Health Sciences Programs. JCAHO requires verification of competency of all individuals who have direct contact with patients or employees; this includes students doing clinical rotations in the facility. Competency extends beyond technical skills to an individual s criminal history. The criminal background check policy and procedure for meeting this mandated prerequisite is available from the Program Director. The student shall be responsible paying any associated costs of a criminal background check. The Radiologic Technology Program background checks are done at a cost of approximately $50.
