The number of students selected for is based on the number of available clinical slots in the program as a whole and may vary by campus and semester. Students will receive notification from the college regarding selection results either by phone call or notification. At that time, instructions will be given as to registration for the upcoming semester and RADT Program orientation. Post-selection Requirements Following selection, in order to progress in the program, the student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for all required RADT courses or a minimum grade of C in each course. In the event that a student achieves a course grade below C, the student will have to be dismissed from the program and will have to re-enter for the next course offering. Before any student s first clinical experience in the program, proof of required immunizations, a drug screen and background check are required (re-entry students will fulfill the drug screen/background check requirements upon re-entering the program as well as with the first clinical experience). 7

10 APPROXIMATE COST EXPECTATIONS (AFTER RADT SELECTION) After selection, Radiologic Technology students should expect four semesters of full-time instruction. The hours may vary from 6:45 a.m. 5:30 p.m. for the clinical courses with a minimum of a two week evening rotation where the times may vary from 12:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. The times are typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm each for didactic courses. Textbook expense for the first semester is approximately $500, with approximately $300 more for the remaining semesters combined, for a total of approximately $800 book expense. Other expected expenses (not including tuition) are: Physical Examination: approximately $ (plus possible additional immunizations during 1 st Semester *(see attached Warner Robins immunization- price list) Drug Screen: approximately $100 during 1 st Semester Criminal Background Check: during 1 st Semester- approximately $50 Liability Insurance: payable with RADT 1320 tuition 1 st Semester approximately $15.00 Uniforms: approximately $50 each; 2 required (most students purchase 3-4 over their clinical experience) during 1 st Semester. There may be additional uniform requirements based on campus student is attending Required Supplies for Clinical: approximately $225 This includes a Dosimeter or Radiation Monitoring Device ($45) per semester Expenses After Graduation Required To Apply For Licensure: ARRT Registry Fee: $200 after 4 th semester Costs above may vary, and students will be given detailed information about requirements in program orientation, but the intent is to give the prospective student an idea of the financial obligations that the Radiologic Technology student will incur. Financial Aid may assist with these costs, but may not cover all of the costs of the program and supplies. The above expense list does not include costs for housing, food, and mileage to travel to and from campus and clinical sites. CGTC s RADT program is supported by area hospitals, orthopedic facilities and urgent care centers which serve as clinical sites for the program. In order to obtain the required clinical practice for each course, the student is required to meet certain employment criteria for these clinical sites including, but not limited to, health clearance through physical examination, 10

11 negative drug/alcohol screening, and negative criminal background history. The clinical sites (independent of the CGTC RADT program) determine those students who meet their criteria for clinical practice. INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND THE PROFESSION Radiologic Technologists produce images (primarily x-rays) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems (injury or disease). They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing jewelry, and other articles through which x-rays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed. To prevent unnecessary exposure to radiation, these workers surround the exposed area with radiation protection devices, such as lead shields, or limit the size of the x- ray beam. Radiographers position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of a patient s body. Radiologic Technologists must follow physicians orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves, their patients, and their coworkers from unnecessary exposure. Radiologic technologists held about 219,900 jobs in In 2010, the Department of Labor and Statistics projected a 28% increase in jobs from 2010 thru 2020 which results in an increase of approximately 61,0000 jobs. About 61% of all jobs were in hospitals. Most other jobs were in offices of physicians; medical and diagnostic laboratories, including diagnostic imaging centers; and outpatient centers. THE RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM PURPOSE The purpose of the Radiologic Technology program is to provide educational opportunities to individuals that will enable them to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed as radiographers. The program provides educational opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, handicapping condition, academic disadvantage, or economic disadvantage. The program graduates are eligible to apply for a national certification examination ( for radiographers and are prepared to function as professionals in the field of radiography. Program graduates are to be competent in the general areas of communications, algebra, interpersonal relations, and anatomy and physiology. Program graduates are to be competent to perform imaging examinations and accompanying responsibilities assigned to a radiographer at the direction of physicians qualified to request and/or perform radiologic procedures. 11

12 MISSION reviewed/revised annually by program faculty, advisory committee, and administrators The mission of the CGTC Radiologic Technology Program is to provide quality instruction for radiography students that will enable them to benefit from and contribute to the economic development of the community.
