1 What is ZOOM/Share ZOOM/Share is the shareware version of ZOOM, a software magnifier which displays characters in big and huge characters sizes. ZOOM works on text screens generated by CGA, EGA, VGA or Hercules video cards connected to color or monochrome displays. In addition to visually impaired users, ZOOM can be used on Laptops, and to increase readability during demos and Shows. ZOOM is a Terminate and Stay Resident program. It Pops on top of any Text application at the touch of a hot key. You don't need to buy an expensive 'big character' word processor. ZOOM works also at DOS level too, and can magnify DOS commands, directory listings, files listings, etc. ZOOM supports all standard video cards including Hercules. video adapters are connected to monochrome displays (Laptop). Monochrome mode can be forced when MOUSE support allows rapid positioning. Helps you read the screen in a natural manner by following lines. New line and Escape simulated by left and right buttons. 2 Features ZOOM/ Share is a reduced version of ZOOM. It is however a fully functional program which contains the following features: State of the art Terminate and Stay Resident program. Compatible with most programs, DOS and other TSRs. Uses only 6 Kbytes of RAM when inactive. Disk Swapping only. Mouse support. Hercules Support including accented letters. Monochrome option to force monochrome on Laptops. Number of characters magnified can be changed dynamically. ZOOM, the commercial version, contains additional features: Two different magnifying levels. EMS swapping for faster response. Automatic detection of EMS and video. User selected Disk or EMS swapping, and Video mode. Up to eight characters displayed in two sizes. Fully reprogrammable Hot keys to eliminate conflicts. User options "burned" into code to simplify startup.
3 Installation Copy the program and documentation files in the directory of your choice. If your mouse driver is not already installed type: MOUSE <enter> or other mouse driver name Install the program by typing: ZOOMSH <enter> A 6K kernel is installed in RAM while the rest of the program is copied to EMS (Full Version) or Disk. An installation message is displayed. ZOOMSH uses <SHIFT><ALT> <Z> to pop up: You must press the SHIFT and ALT keys simultaneously and then 'Z' to have the window pop up on the screen. Remarks: - Mouse and/or Cursor Keys can be used to move the ZOOM window around the screen. To use the mouse a mouse driver must be installed via CONFIG.SYS or at DOS level. - ZOOM should work without interfering with other programs or TSRs. To eliminate problems, the following guidelines must be applied: - Never load ZOOM before a Network Shell, communication programs or any other program using real-time interrupts. These programs may loose some information and hang. LOAD AFTER! - Don't load ZOOM before multi-tasking systems managers like DeskView for the same reasons as above. - Don't pop up ZOOM while running programs that uses a protected mode DOS extender like Phar Lap's. These programs may reprogram the 8259 interrupt controller and remap memory and hang the system. - If you pop ZOOM on top of big applications like Word Perfect, your hard disk should be able to handle the swap files. If free disk space is not adequate, ZOOM refuses to pop up.
4 Options and Switches ZOOM/Share recognizes the following options and switches: Options : /U Uninstall and remove completely from RAM /M Force Monochrome mode /B Big characters at startup Uninstall /U Type: ZOOMSH /U to eliminate ZOOMSH from RAM. If TSRs are loaded after ZOOMSH, a message will ask you to unload these TSRs before you can remove ZOOMSH.
