The University of Southern Denmark, Odense, guarantees accommodation for degree students in a student hall of residence or in private accommodation. The guarantee only applies to applicants who apply with a complete student application form and an accommodation form within the deadlines mentioned below. Right of withdrawal In accordance with the Danish Act on Certain Consumer Contracts, you have the right to withdraw from your residential tenancy agreement up to 14 days after you have received the accommodation offer which is sent to you by email (the coolingoff period). If you withdraw your application after termination of the cooling-off period (i.e. the period in which you can withdraw from your tenancy agreement), you will be charged up to three months rent!
Application Deadlines Autumn semester: May 1 st Spring semester: November 1 st Applicants sending in forms after these dates are not guaranteed accommodation! Accommodation Offer You only get one accommodation offer. It is sent to you by email by the Accommodation Office, usually in July or early August/late December or early January. Rent, Deposit, Etc. The rent per month is maximum DKK 2700. On arrival you have to pay a deposit equivalent of maximum 3 months rent. The room is furnished for a monthly fee of DKK 150-200. Some rooms include room AND board. They cost about DKK 3200 per month with no deposit or furniture fee. The overall payment of the first month is maximum DKK 10,800, and per month thereafter maximum 2900. License Fee In Denmark every household with electric appliances such as TV, radio, video, DVD, computer with internet access, mobile phone or similar electronic devices that work as a television or radio receiver has to pay media license. As a student in Denmark with your own room, you will be a household. You should therefore expect to have to pay this fee while you are here. You pay DKK 180 per month. Contents insurance In Denmark you are expected to have contents insurance. If you choose not to take out insurance for your housing, you should be aware that there is no coverage for you in case of theft and burglary. Rental Period You pay rent from the date your accommodation is available. If you come to Odense for the autumn semester starting September 1 st, you will usually have to accept and pay for accommodation from August 1 st. Note, however, that you may not get accommodation until around September 1 st. If this is the case, you naturally only pay rent from September 1 st. If you come to Odense for the spring semester starting February 1 st, you should expect to have to accept and pay for accommodation as early as of January 1 st and as late as February 1 st. Note, that you may not get accommodation until around February 1 st. Again, you then only pay rent from February 1 st. You are responsible for paying rent for the room assigned to you until the termination of the tenancy agreement. Be aware that you have to pay rent two weeks after you move out of your room. Please be aware that notice of termination of tenancy agreement must be given up to three months before you wish to leave your accommodation. It is only possible to give notice from the 1 st or the 15 th of the month. Housing conditions
You are placed in an off campus student hall or in private accommodation. In general you should expect to share kitchen and/or bathroom with one or more persons. You are likely to share kitchen and/or bathroom with a person of the opposite sex. On rare occasions you may share kitchen and/or bathroom with a person who is not a student. Be aware that you should not expect to be able to be two people sharing one room.
