2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Do you allow pets in the apartments? A: The only pet that we allow is a fish in a tank not bigger than 5 gallons. Sorry, no cats or dogs. Q: Can I subscribe to any other cable service besides the one that the University provides? A: No, cable services go through the University. If you are interested in premium services, you need to go through Comcast for that upgrade. Q: Are the apartments open during the summer months? A: Yes, the apartments are open during the summer months. On the apartment application you have the option of choosing to begin leasing an apartment during the summer. If you are already in an apartment, you have the option of extending your lease. Q: What is the availability of the apartments? A: The availability will depend on the number of apartments that will become available. This can vary from year to year, so if you are interested in an apartment, get your application and deposit in as soon as possible. Q: Does the University provide Internet service? A: No, the University does not provide Internet services. The University will, however, provide tenants with a list of local providers upon request. Grandview Campus Apartments has WiFi. However, all other University Apartments do not offer this service Q: What appliances are furnished? A: All apartments are provided with a refrigerator, stove, and oven. The single-level, Lion s Gate and Grandview Campus Apartments have dishwashers. Grandview has furnished living room, TV, kitchen bar stools, microwave, washer, and dryer.

3 UNIVERSITY APARTMENTS The University of North Alabama has apartments available to university students. Two apartment complexes are conveniently located within walking distance of the entire campus. Both apartment complexes are located behind the Kilby Professional Laboratory School by the University Health Services, located in Bennett Infirmary.

4 UNIVERSITY APARTMENT BI-LEVEL UNITS 1-50 The 50 units are located at the intersection of North Cedar Street and Circular Road on the northwest side of campus. These units are unfurnished, bi-level apartments which include tile or carpeted floors, heating, and air conditioning. Each unit has two bedrooms, a bath, living-dining room combination, and a kitchen. There is a coin-operated laundry facility in the complex, as well as selective parking for the tenants. There are 30 unfurnished units with carpeted floors and central heating and air conditioning. Each unit has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, eating area, and a kitchen. 7 LION'S GATE APARTMENTS The Lion s Gate Apartments are available to university students. Lion s Gate Apartments are conveniently located on North Pine Street just past Rice and Rivers Halls. The apartments are a short walking or driving distance from campus. The 16 units are unfurnished single-level units which include hardwood and carpeted floors, and central heating and air conditioning. Each unit has two bedrooms and two baths, living room, dining room, and a kitchen. All Lion s Gate units have washer and dryer hookups.

9 GRANDVIEW CAMPUS APARTMENTS Brand new, completely renovated two- and four-bedroom apartments are located one mile from campus on Graham Avenue. The new complex has 54 partially furnished apartments. Two courtyard areas have pavilion and grills. Landscape includes outside lighting and concrete pathways leading to all parking areas. Each unit has furnished living room area, flat screen TV, WiFi, dishwasher, microwave, kitchen bar area with bar stools, washer and dryer, carpeted bedrooms, and wood laminate floors in common areas. Students have individual bathrooms.

10 APARTMENT COSTS DEPOSIT: Each apartment applicant must pay a security deposit of $200 along with a completed apartment application to be placed on the waiting list. The deposit is refundable with written notice to be removed from the waiting list. RENT: Apartment rent is added to the student account with tuition and fees. A total of six months apartment rent is due and payable with fall semester tuition. Rent is prorated for the date when apartment lease is signed. For spring semester, six months rent is billed with spring tuition. If a tenant moves out at the official end of the lease period, a refund of any excess paid rent past the May 31 termination date is contingent on how the tenant has met conditions of the lease. Any utilities over $80 per month will be charged back to the tenant s student account, payable at the UNA Business Office. It is each tenant s responsibility to review their account regularly and to be informed of all Business Office payment deadlines. CABLE: Cable is included in apartment rent. Cable service is through UNA s agreement with Comcast. Any additional services such as digital and premium services, as well as high-speed Internet, are extra cost and payable directly to Comcast. No satellite dishes are permitted. INTERNET: Grandview Campus Apartments has WiFi. However, all other University apartments do not offer this service. A list of local providers is available upon request. TELEPHONE: Tenants are responsible for telephone service and must contact the telephone companies. Services are payable to the telephone service company.

11 APPLICATION PROCESS APPLICATION AND DEPOSIT: A completed application and deposit of $200 for the University, Lion s Gate and Grandview Campus apartments is required for placement on the waiting list. This deposit will serve as a security deposit for the apartment upon rental. Roommates, if single, should have a $200 deposit receipted in their name. Only two single adults are allowed per apartment. Apartment deposit is an out-of-pocket expense and cannot be added to applicant s student account. Checks, money orders, and debit/credit card authorization form are accepted when submitting application by mail. Application and debit/credit card authorization form are available on our website to download, print, and submit. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: MARRIED COUPLES: At least one person must be enrolled at UNA as a full-time student. Copy of marriage certificate is required. BROTHER / SISTER: Each must be enrolled at UNA as a full-time student. Copy of each birth certificate is required. SINGLE PARENT: Must be enrolled at UNA as a full-time student. Copy of birth certificate for each child is required and retained on file at the Housing office. AVAILABILITY: Apartments are leased upon availability and priority date of deposit receipt. Apartments are leased to upperclassmen first and then to incoming freshmen. Our office will notify the applicant when an apartment is available for the requested semester. LEASE: The lease begins on date of signing and terminates on May 31. Renewals for less than a year are negotiable. Parent/guardian signature is required on the lease if tenant is not 19 years or older. ALL APARTMENTS ARE SMOKE-FREE FACILITIES
