Activated Charcoal Used to absorb toxins ingested before they can be absorbed in the GI system. Contraindicated in AMS patients who cannot control their airway On line medical direction must be contacted (Category B) Adult Dose: 1 g/kg Side effects: Nausea and Vomiting.

Adenosine Slows So sconduction o through the AV Node. Used to treat PSVT with or without WPW. Contraindications: 2 nd or 3 rd degree HB, Hypersensitivity, Pregnancy, Coronary Vasodilator, Tegratol. Adult Dose: 6mg, 12mg, 12mg, RIVP. Follow each administration with 20cc flush. (CAT B)

Albuterol Potent bronchodilator used to treat bronchial asthma and reversible bronchial spasm. Contraindicated in symptomatic tachycardia. Watch for significant arrhythmia changes. Stop treatment t tif pulse increases 20bpm, PVC s develop, or tachyarrhythmias y other than sinus develop. Adult Dose: 2.5mg nebulized. (Cat A)

Amiodarone Used in the eteat treatment e tof life threatening arrhythmias such as v fib, pulseless VT. May also be used in the treatment of frequent PVC s under Medical control guidance as a drip. May cause bradycardia Adultdose: dose: 300mg dilutedin30cc in ns, RIVP, followed by two more administrations at 150 mg.

Asprin Inhibits Prostoglandin (Clotting Inhibits Prostoglandin (Clotting Factors), used in the treatment of Unstable Angina, AMI s, and Ischemic Chest Pain. Contraindicated in known allergy, GI bleeding, or if pt. has already taken 325mg in 24 hrs. Adult Dose: 4 81 mg chewable tablets (Cat A)

Atropine Primary indication is symptomatic bradycardia or asystole. May also be used in the treatment of Organophosphate or nerve gas poisoning. Contraindicated in A Fib/Flutter or heart transplant patients. Adult Dose: 1mg IV/IO q 3 5 min up to 0.04 mg/kg. May also given through ET. (CAT A)

Calcium Gluconate Used for the treatment of hyperkalemic asystole (Typically dialysis pt.) and calcium channel blocker overdose. Contraindicated if possible Digitalis overdose, contact Medical Control to confirm drug taken is calcium channel blocker. Adult Dose: 1 2g IVP over two minutes. (CAT A for Asystole, CAT B for CCB Overdose.)

50% Dextrose (D 50) Used for the treatment of blood sugar less than 70mg/dl or AMS patient where glucometer malfunctions. Precaution: D 50 will cause tissue necrosis if IV extravasates. Thiamine should precede administration if suspected alcohol abuse or malnutrition. Adult Dose: One 50ml amp or 1ml/kg if pt is less than 50kg. (CAT A)

Diazepam Indicated for the treatment of seizures or as a an analgesic prior to cardioversion. Contraindicated in alcohol use and CNS depression, may cause respiratory depression. Adult Dose: 5 10 mg SIVP. (CAT A except Cardioversion.)

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) Used in the treatment of Anaphylaxis after the administration of IM Epinephrine. Contraindicatedifknown if allergy exists or for nursing mothers. May cause hypotension. Adult Dose: 25 50mg deep IM or SIVP. (CAT A)

Dopamine Used primarily yto treat teat hypotension secondary to cardiogenic shock. Contraindicated in hypovolemic shock. Will be inactivated t dif given through h the same IV as Sodium Bicarbonate. Adult Dose: 2 40mcg/kg/min (CAT B)

Epinephrine Indicated for all cardiac arrest arrhythmias, anaphylaxis, and asthma in patients under 40. Precautions include angina after administration and tachycardia. Adult Dose: Cardiac Arrest 1mg of 1:10,000 q 3 5 IV or IO, Anaphylaxis 0.3mg IM or SQ of 1:1,000. (CAT A) Adult acute asthma 0.3 0.5 mg 1:1,000 SQ (CAT B)

Furosemide A potent diuretic used to treat acute pulmonary edema. Contraindicated in hypovolemia or hypotension. Adult Dose: 20 40mg SIVP over 2 min. (CAT B)

Glucagon Primary indication is Primary indication is hypoglycemic states where an IV cannot be established. May also be used for Beta or Calcium Channel Blocker OD. Precautions include tachycardia and N and V. Adult Dose: 1 mg IM, may be repeated once.

Hydroxocobalamin (Cyanide Kit) Indicated dcatedfor known cyanide poisoning or smoke inhalation victims. Precautions include allergic reactions. Adult Dose: Draw one red top tube before administration. Mix 5g of Hydroxocobalamin into 100cc of NS, give as an infusion over 15 min.

Lidocaine Indicated dcatedfor the eteat treatment e tof PVC s, Cs, V Tach with a pulse, or recurrent V Fib/V Tach following defibrillation and Epinephrine. Contraindicated in HR less than 60 or AV blocks. Adult Dose: Bolus 1.5mg/kg initial followed by 0.75mg/kg 075mg/kgfor a total of 4mg/kg max. 2 4mg/min infusion to follow conversion.

Lorazepam Primary indication for status seizures (SZ longer than 5 min continuously). Mayalso also be used before cardioversion. Do Not Mix with other agents. Adult Dose: 1 2mg SIVP over 2 min. (CAT A unless more than 2mg is needed.)

Magnesium Sulfate Indicated in the treatment Indicated in the treatment of Eclampsia and Polymorphic V Tach. Precautions: Can lead to hypotension or respiratory arrest. Adult Dose: Mix 4g in 250cc bag of NS and infuse over 20 min.

Morphine Sulfate Narcotic analgesic indicated for any severe pain or as an adjunct therapy for CHF or Pulmonary Edema. Contraindications: known allergy, blood pressure lessthan90, orsignificantrespiratory respiratory depression. May cause N and V. Adult Dose: 4mg IVP initial followed by 2mg until pain is managed every 3 5 min to 10 mg max. (CAT A) 2 4mg IVP for Pulmonary Edema. (CAT B)

Naloxone (Narcan) Indicated for the reversal of Indicated for the reversal of narcotic effects (morphine, codeine, etc). Precautions: Pt. is physically dependent on narcotic, Narcan may cause immediate withdrawal symptoms. Adult Dose: 2mg given slowly IV, IM, SQ, or 4mg ET. (CAT A)

Nitroglycerin Indicated for angina, HTN, or pulmonary edema. Contraindicated in children. May cause generalized vasodilation causing profound BP drop, these effects can be magnified in pt.s taking medication for erectile disfunction. Adult Dose: 0.4mg SL by tablet or spray. (CAT A, CAT B for HTN)

Nitrous Oxide Indicated for use in generalized pain management. Contraindicated in AMS, intoxication, head injury, suspected pneumothorax, abdominal pain or distention, COPD. Adult Dose: Selfadministered until pain is relieved. (CAT B)

Ondansetron (Zofran) Indicated for Nausea and Vomiting. Contraindications: Known allergy, age less than one month. Adult Dose: 4mg IV or IM. (CAT A)

Sodium Bicarbonate Used to control arrhythmias secondary to Tricyclic Antidepressant overdose and acidosis secondary to cardiac arrest. Precautions: Too much may result in alkalosis. May cause cerebral acidosis, particularly pt.s in DKA. Adult Dose: 1mEq/kg, followed by 0.5mEq/kg until pulse is restored. (CAT A for cardiac arrest, CAT B for TA overdose.)

Thiamine Indicated for malnutrition or alcoholism in the patient with low blood sugar. Administration should precede glucagon or D 50. Adult Dose: 100mg IV or IM. (CAT A)

Indicated for shock Indicated for shock refractory VF, VT, PEA, or Asystole. Contraindications: Children, conscious pt.s. Adult Dose: 40 Units IVP, one time dose. (CAT A) Vasopressin
