The South African Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (SAPSAC) presents its 16 th Annual National Child Abuse Conference 19-21 August 2015 CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria Conference theme: Towards multi-disciplinary expertise in handling child abuse CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT It is indeed a pleasure to announce SAPSAC`s 16 th Annual National Child Abuse Conference and to invite all professionals interested in the improved handling of child abuse to register for the conference. The SAPSAC conferences are aimed to educate at the multi-disciplinary level. They provide a rare learning opportunity for professionals at all levels and in all disciplines, where we may also learn from partners and colleagues in other disciplines. The topics are carefully chosen to speak to all involved in handling child abuse and, with no less than three specialist post-conference parallel training sessions, it should certainly speak to all kinds of training needs. The focus of this year s conference is amongst other on child sexual and physical abuse litigation for the Multi-Disciplinary team. We are very excited and privileged to welcome back Lawrence J Braunstein, Defense Attorney and former Prosecutor from New York as the guest presenter this year. Larry presented at the 2005 SAPSAC conference and received raving reviews. He will present conference sessions as well as a parallel training workshop on Forensic interviewing. Attention will also be given to medical related issues regarding child sexual abuse, child trauma in South Africa, trauma bonding theories, a protective behaviors programme and the child as an offender. Following on the focus of the 2015 conference attention will also be given to the management of children with mental health issues in alternative care facilities. The lunches and teas provide the important opportunity for professional networking in answer to another of SAPSAC`s aims as reflected in the SAPSAC logo: taking hands in the best interest of the children of South Africa. 1

GUEST PRESENTER - LAWRENCE JAY BRAUNSTEIN Lawrence Jay Braunstein is a partner in the law firm of Braunstein & Zuckerman, Esqs, in White Plains, New York. He also regularly lectures as an invited speaker, both nationally and internationally, in the areas of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and abusive head trauma (shaken baby), child custody litigation, expert witness testimony, courtroom psychology, and trial procedures to judges, attorneys, medical and mental health professionals, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, and child protection service personnel.
