Dear Keller High School Families, As we near the close of the 2014-15 school year, I am so proud of our community of learners for committing to the vision of KHS and its Tradition of Excellence! I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for the 2015 graduates who will be walking across the stage on May 30 th to receive their high school diploma. The standards that they have established in their tenure at KHS have been high and will leave a lasting legacy, setting the benchmark for future Indians to live up to. This year marked wonderful accomplishments for our students in the areas of Academics, Athletics, Fine Arts, Extra-Curricular, and Involvement. With the passage of the Keller ISD Bond Package last November, the Keller High School campus will experience some exciting renovations over the 2015-2016 school year. We are pleased to share with you that several of the upcoming changes were led by KHS staff, parents, and students that spent a significant amount of time reviewing and revising the initial plan to ensure it included a new school entry and face for our Keller High School campus. These changes will require substantial construction at the main entrance beginning this summer and will continue through the school year. Like updating a house, while the construction brings improvements, the changes in the meantime, present some challenges. It is the District s intent to be proactive in communicating these challenges and how we will be managing them. During construction, the school s temporary front entrance for students, staff, and visitors will become the double-glass doors by the gymnasium. These doors are just east of the original entrance, approximately 50 yards down the walkway. There is a set of steps leading up to the glass doors of the temporary entrance by the gym. Parents will continue to use a smaller modified loop on the south side of the building to drop off/pick up students at the temporary entrance, but rather than circling the perimeter of the parking lot (past the flagpole in front of the original entrance), onsite construction will force vehicles to cut across the parking area and then exit the lot (reference the attached exhibit). In the summer of 2015, as we mobilize the front entry and plan for demolition, daily visitors will park and enter the building on the Johnson Road side of the campus which is located on the north side of Keller High School. Beginning in the fall of 2015, daily visitors will park in the original visitor parking lot on the south side of Keller High School and utilize the temporary front entrance as described above. Student parking will be limited during construction, specifically in the areas directly south of the campus. Please know that we have developed an action plan for our student-drivers, both for reserved and general parking, so that they can park on campus and navigate around the campus in an organized fashion. Overall Phasing Plan for KISD Staff 5-13-15 BP2 Level2 During this project one of the main goals must be the safety of our students and staff. Creating separation between construction activity areas and student populated areas is necessary to accomplish this. The Keller High School Band Hall will be re-located to the lecture hall area of the building for most, if not all, of the school year. The lecture hall is located near the gymnasiums on the east side of the building. Modifications to the existing lecture hall space is planned to accommodate our Band during this transitional period. Again, student, staff, and parent safety is our top priority as we work to complete these renovations. We urge you to regularly remind your student to stay away from the construction areas. We want to ensure these projects are completed without incident, and the cooperation of our Keller High School community
will help us accomplish these improvements in a timely manner, ultimately resulting in an updated building that we will all be proud of for years to come. Please stay informed of all the ongoing changes throughout the process, and for the very latest information visit www.kellerisd.net and click on the Bond 2014 on the front page. I wish each of our students and families a positive, safe and fun summer! Sincerely, Dr. Michael Nasra, Principal
