MAS-PC QuickConnect A utility program for connection of a PC to MAS711 The purpose with this program called MAS-PC QuickConnect is to simplify the connection of a PC to a MAS711 Base unit, which will enable access to a feature of MAS called Web tool embedded web pages in the MAS Base unit. The Web tool greatly simplifies setup and use of MAS. MAS-PC QuickConnect establishes a route between the PC and MAS and launches a web browser. The program can handle direct connection between a PC and MAS or connection between a PC and a MAS Base unit on a local area network LANconnection. Required components Access of the Web tool of a MAS Base unit requires a: Patch cable (Category 5E) straight or crossover (see below) - for connection of the PC and MAS Base units. Web browser (i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla1.6 ) installed on the PC. Java Runtime environment installed on the PC (can be downloaded from http://www.java.com or from the MAS web site on the Intranet (called Java Applet Plug-In ). Direct connection between a PC and a MAS Base unit 1. Store the program MAS_PC_QuickConnect.exe on your computer s hard drive. 2. Connect a crossover patch cable between the Ethernet ports of the PC and the MAS Base unit. 3. Switch on the power. MAS requires 45 seconds to power up. 4. Check the LEDs below Ethernet on the front of the Base used to see that the communication works: Link should be permanently lit. LAN is blinking when communication is going on 1
5. Start the program (Double-click MAS_PC_QuickConnect.exe) and follow the instructions. 6. The following message will appear: On the first attempt Mas-PC QuickConnect tries to use the factory default IPaddress (10.0.48.94) and if it has not been changed a connection will be established between the PC and MAS and the browser will be launched. 7. If the IP address is changed from the default, please wait 30 s until the following message appears. 8. Click No and the following message comes up: Enter the IP-address of the MAS Base unit. The IP-address can be checked by using the Operator panel: Go via Setup - General configuration to find the IP-Address (navigation code 2.5.15). 9. Once again this message appears 2
and in a moment the web browser is launched, confirmed by message: 10. The program has now completed its task to help you connect your PC to a MAS Base unit. Click Login to use the MAS Web Tool! 3
Connection to MAS Base units on a local area network (LAN) MAS-PC QuickConnect can be used to connect a PC to MAS Base units connected to the same subnet on a network. The PC will be able to find MAS units 1 and 2 in the figure below but not 3 and 4. 1. Store the program MAS_PC_QuickConnect.exe on your computer s hard drive. 2. Straight patch cables (Cat 5E) are used for connection of the PC and MAS Base units to the LAN. 3. Switch on the power. MAS requires 45 seconds to power up. 4. Check the LEDs below Ethernet on the front of the Base used that communication takes place: Link should be permanently lit. LAN is blinking when communication is going on 5. The following message will appear: MAS units setup to work on a LAN have specially assigned IP-addresses, which of course are different from the factory default. On the first attempt Mas-PC QuickConnect tries to use the factory default and will not find any of the Base units on the network. 4
