Dear reader, The Latvia University of Agriculture (in Latvian LLU) invites you to study at all study levels (undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral) at the heart of Zemgale region, Jelgava, the student capital city of Latvia! Studies are held at the beautiful Jelgava Palace an outstanding architectural monument of the Baltic States. The beginnings of the LLU go back to 1863 when the Department of Agriculture was established at the Riga Polytechnics. In 2013 the university is going to celebrate its th 150 anniversary. Our development vision is to strengthen the university as an integrated center of studies and research combining education, science and technology transfer. The LLU is planning to take an active part at the newly established research centres of national importance the Centre of Food and Agriculture Resources and the Centre of Forestry and Water Resources. Thanks to the financial support of European Structural Funds, the LLU has improved its technical and research infrastructure to become a modern university. In recent years significant financial investments have been made at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (a new, modern clinical institute), research and training farm Vecauce and other LLU faculties. Nowadays the development of all sectors of economic and scientific activities is closely related to the application of Information Technologies (IT). The programme is oriented towards the following applications of IT in the interdisciplinary trends: computerized production control systems with the aim to educate you for the analysis of production systems and the development and maintaining of control systems by using the specificity of hardware; systems analysis you will have good theoretical knowledge of software engineering and practical skills to solve the problems related to the designing, maintaining and application of software systems; information technologies in biosystems with the aim to prepare you to be creative and to be able to apply new solutions of information technologies for storing and analyzing biological data. The amount of the study programme is 120 ECTS, that consist of theoretical courses (27 ECTS): Career Development Theories, Organizational Culture, Career Service Management, Human Life Cycles, Theory and Methodology of Career Counselling, Communication Theories in Counselling, professional specialization (24 ECTS): Professional Ethics of Counsellor, Legislation of Career Support System, Employment and Job Search, Social Integration and Intercultural Aspects, IT in Career Counselling, Methodology of Scientific Research and practice (39 ECTS), to consolidate skills how to use theories of career counselling and education in practice. General requirements To apply for master level studies at the Latvia University of Agriculture, you need to have bachelor's degree in the corresponding study field or you can have a degree in a different study field, but you will be admitted according to the requirements of the chosen programme. If the entrance examination is required, you will receive the information about the test place and time after submitting the application.
