EMSP 2338 EMS Operations Spring 2012 Credits: 3 EMS Operations is an on-line Black Board course. The students read the textbook and refer to the lesson slides to prepare for the chapter quizzes. The student does not complete, they will be given a grade of "I" incomplete for the course and the student will have until the next semester to complete this requirement by August 20, 2012. The undersigned agrees, under the penalty of law, not to reveal to any person or persons except authorized clinical staff and associated personnel any specific information regarding any patient and further agrees not to reveal to any third party any confidential information of Hospital/ EMS agency, except as required by law or authorized by Hospital. Course Description A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence to safely manage the scene of an emergency. Rationale At the end of this unit, the student will be able to safely manage medical incidents, rescue situations, hazardous material incidents, legal situations, and crime scenes. Methods of Acccomplishing Objectives The course has two main modules; Module 1: Intro/ Legal/ Ethics and Module 2: EMS Ops/ ICS/ NIMS/ EVOC. Students have three assignments in Module 1 and seven assignments in Module 2. Each module has a major exam. The students will also take the National Incident Management System (NIMS courses 100b, 200, 700a, and 800 courses online. They will then email the course completion certificates to their instructor. The course will use Paramedic Care: Principles & Practice, 3 rd Ed. Bledsoe, Prentice_Hall, as the main textbooks using Volumes 1 and 5 as per the attached course schedule. The successful evaluation of mastery of course objectives will be accomplished through reading the materials and passing the on-line courses, assignments, major exams, and a final examination. Grading System A = 90-100 B = 80-89 Below 80% Final average less than 80% denotes failure.
Assignments Assignments are to be completed using the attached recommended course schedule and course knowledge objectives. The students will be allowed two times to pass the quizzes. The highest retest score on the exams will be an 80%. The students must make 80% on the EMS Operations Black Board two major exams and the course final with two chances to pass the majors and the final examination. Students are responsible for all drops except administrative drops. The last date to drop a course is 4/ 1/2012, 5 pm. Student evaluations are based on completion of all quizzes, majors, projects, tours, and final written examination.
