Executive Summary Welcome to the Greythorn Asia Salary Guide for 2011/2012. With a buoyant start to 2011 and global businesses continuing to expand their Asian operations we are now seeing some challenges and caution in the market especially in the Banking and Financial Services Sector. As Asian markets recovered from the global financial crisis, job seekers have experienced an increase in demand and we have seen talent shortages reappear in many areas. As a result of these candidate shortages, pressure on salaries have increased across most markets. Recruitment processes continue to be changing, with the best talent moving quickly and frequently having multiple opportunities available to them. Employers need to take appropriate steps to manage their workforce in this competitive landscape. Smart employers are focused on retention strategies to ensure they keep the best talent within their business. However, even with the best strategies in place, employers need to accept that some turnover is inevitable. Building talent pipelines is therefore essential, as well as having recruitment strategies that are nimble and can adapt to these changing market conditions. For the remainder of 2011 we expect to see a level of caution by employers who will be continually reviewing their headcount requirements in the region. The on-going debt issues in Europe and the US, combined with the volatile equity markets suggest companies will focus on costs and ensuring they are only hiring in critical areas for the business, until the situation stabilises. Dominic Dunn Associate Director, Tristan Amin Director, 3

Banking & Financial Services Market Overview 2011 has been a year of differing activity for the Banking and Financial Services sector, with solid hiring activity from the regional banks and mixed levels from the international banks following very aggressive hiring during 2010. Those international banks that are hiring due to medium to long term programme commitments, have put a larger emphasis on contract hires to reduce both headcount and total remuneration pressures. There is a continued trend to move some of the support functions to more cost effective locations such as India, China and Eastern Europe which has impacted the salary demands and expectations levels of those candidates remaining in. Organisations are also placing a greater emphasis on soft skills in addition to core technical skills to generate a more flexible workforce. 2011 has seen a general raising of the bar with expectations from organisations. Hiring managers are no longer willing to settle for available average performers and are happy to hold on for stronger profiles to meet all requirements, even when those profiles are not immediately available in the market. Forecast for Q4 2011 and into 2012 Hiring levels should remain cautiously consistent due to continued demand from regional banks committed to upgrading their core banking systems, coupled with a need from those international institutions that have reached a critical staffing level after natural attritions. International banks are still going to be feeling the financial pressures from the overspill of the GFC and the continued uncertainty that is felt around the global financial markets so will be hiring with a sense of caution and focusing on investment programmes. Those candidates with leading edge core technical skills such as mobile banking and high performance grid technology, will continue to be in demand. Project Managers with hands-on experience of delivering FX projects within Asia will remain high on the wish list for investment banks. Heading into 2011 Q4 and 2012, banks are becoming more cautious about approving headcount, even replacement headcount. Often, when a replacement role comes up, the hiring manager has to justify the cost of replacement, it is not simply a case of on boarding a new hire in the same salary range and skillset. Top 5 Jobs in Demand - Now Architects Front Office Developers Information Security Managers Business Analysts - core banking Project Mangers FX / core banking Top 5 Jobs in Demand - 2010 Ecommerce Java Developers Infrastructure / Market Data support High performance C++ developers Business Analysts - credit risk Project Managers - x-asset class Salary Trends 2010 saw a very high demand for candidates across different skillsets which drove salary levels up accordingly. In 2011 and going into 2012, organisations are no longer happy to absorb increases on their base salary of 20-25% each time a candidate moves and typically offer 10-15% with a greater emphasis on total compensation package. Some niche, in demand, skills will continue to command a higher than average increase when candidates move, but expectation management will be needed when more average candidates are expecting the same increase as 2010 when moving into a similar role. With a greater number of experienced project professionals already based in and, mid to senior level overseas candidates will need to realign their salary expectations accordingly and relocation packages are becoming the exception rather than the rule. 4

Commerce & Industry Market Overview Hiring activities have been strong for H1 2011 in Commerce and Industry. Vendors are quick to respond to the needs of their customers who want to run a more cost effective IT business function. There is an increased demand of On Demand Software and Cloud Computing solutions and Mobility Solutions/ Applications. IT Vendors have been hiring aggressively for Sales and Pre-Sales professionals to help sell these new solutions to the / market. More mid-sized consulting or vendor companies that have an established footprint in Europe and US markets are entering and are making their regional APAC headquarters to further expand their business. A number of Telecommunications companies have continued building out their services arm as well as setting up and growing a consultancy unit to create new revenue streams. For IT end-user organisations, key functions like IT Manager, ERP consultants, IT operations (including Helpdesk, IT application support and network support) are still in demand. The business-as-usual positions remains critical. New and expansion positions will likely have flat or moderated growth. In the large consultancies have significant talent shortages within IT Advisory, IT Risk, Security and Architecture. Forecast for Q4 2011 and into 2012 Moving into Q4 2011 and 2012, we expect there to be continued growth, albeit not as aggressive as the previous 18 months, in part due to the uncertain economic stagnation in US and Europe which maybe propagated into Asia. There is a shortage of skilled Pre Sales and Technical Consultants in the areas of Virtualization, Security, Data Centre, Storage, and Mobility solutions. Candidates with experience selling into emerging markets like Indonesia, Vietnam, and China will be sought after. Overall the hiring activities in the Vendor & Telecommunications sector remain fairly positive especially at the midlevel since companies are looking to groom their next generation of leaders for their businesses. Positions from junior to mid-level will still be available while limited positions are likely to be available in higher management. All the indicators point to the shortage for highly skilled candidates continuing in /Hong Kong and opportunities remaining available for top tier candidates. The Government is prepared to react if there is a dip in economic growth and given the economic fundamentals, we are still optimistic that will continue to remain an attractive option for businesses and candidates. Top 5 Jobs in Demand - Now Sales Director/Manager (Emerging Markets) Pre Sales Consultants (Mobility) Security Manager Project Manager Infrastructure Analyst Top 5 Jobs in Demand - 2010 Sales Director/Manager (Emerging Markets) Pre Sales Consultants (Mobility) Solution Architect Infrastructure Manager Systems Analyst Salary Trends Given the competitive hiring market, we are expecting a moderate rise in salaries across the board. Only candidates who have a niche skill can demand a premium in the market. For IT End-User organisations, there will be a moderate growth in job openings, especially on foreign MNCs. 11
