Revere Middle School Gettysburg/Washington, DC Trip May 24-27, 2016 General Information / Instructions Chaperones: This trip is staffed by Revere Local Schools employees only (all or the majority of them being middle school teachers/employees). We also take a medical professional with us each year. If we cannot find a medical professional who is also employed by the school, we will ask a parent who works in the medical field. If you are a medical doctor, nurse, or EMT and would be interested in going on the trip if an opening arises, please email Mrs. Stuthard at mstuthard@revereschools.org. Luggage: 1. Students may only bring 2 pieces of luggage 1 carry-on (preferably a backpack) and 1 suitcase (to be stored under the bus). 2. All bags must have an I.D. marker on the outside. Clothing: 1. Considering this is a school-related trip, the students will be expected to follow the school dress code. 2. Pack enough clothes for 3 days and be prepared for a variety of weather (jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.). The night before we leave, check www.weather.com for the latest weather report for Gettysburg, PA and Washington, DC. 3. Bring a light-weight jacket. 4. Comfortable walking shoes are a must! 5. A more detailed list will be given in the final packet, but here are some packing items to think about ahead of time: Comfortable shoes Rain gear (UMBRELLA) Shorts and shirts that are school dress code appropriate A watch Backpack (highly recommended to carry camera, umbrella, jacket, etc.) Cameras: 1. Know how to operate your camera before we leave. 2. Must use a camera that is separate from your cell phone. Bus/Motion Sickness: If you have a history of either of these problems, we will be able to arrange your seat close to the front of the bus. A medication form will be sent home in April. Medications: If you need to take medicine on the trip, medication forms must be filled out specifically for this trip. They will be sent home in the final packet in April. *All prescription medication requires a physician s signature on the form. Parents will have the option whether or not they want their child to carry and administer the medicine, or if they want the chaperone to carry and administer. Emergency Situations: Should you become separated from the group, locate a police officer, guard, or official at the place being visited. Describe your situation and where you were last with your group. Your absence will be noted by your chaperones, and we will check with the same authorities. Keep your copy of the itinerary with you at all times! Code of Conduct During the Trip: 1. Loud talking, shouting, improper language, pushing, etc. are not permitted. 2. Comments are not to be directed to pedestrians, motorists, or bus drivers. This is in poor taste, and it is dangerous. 3. Eating will be permitted on the bus and in the hotel rooms, provided that trash is confined to wastepaper baskets. Food, snacks, and drinks (chips, pop, water, candy, etc.) can be taken along on the trip. 4. Lack of time prevents loitering at rest stops or waiting in long lines to make purchases.

5. The bus is climate controlled; therefore windows are to be kept closed. Nothing should be tossed out the windows. 6. Electronic devices (IPods, etc.) may be taken on the trip; however, HEADPHONES MUST BE USED! These devices may only be used on the bus (when there is no tour going on or other instructions being given) and in the hotel rooms. STUDENTS are responsible for all valuables taken on the trip. On a trip of this nature, students are required to be on their best behavior at all times. In the event that a student cannot abide by the rules, the following actions may be taken: Verbal warning Removal of certain trip privileges Immediate call to parents If a *serious incident occurs, the student will be sent home on public transportation at the expense of the parent/guardian. This stipulation would also include any expenses incurred as a result of such disciplinary action. *See Grounds for Suspension or Expulsion in the Student Handbook/Assignment book. Other behavior may be considered a serious incident even if it is not listed on the above pages including any behavior that may jeopardize the safety of one or more of the students. Hotel: The hotel is like most other standard hotels in the world. It has rooms with two double beds as well as rooms with king sized beds. We take up a good portion of the hotel. All of the rooms also have a pull-out couch bed. Therefore, some students will end up with a total of 3 beds in their room, and some students will end up with a total of 2 beds in their room. Each room has 4 students in it. Costs are listed on the first page of this packet for triple, double, and single rooms. Communication: Due to the large number of students attending this trip, we request that you only call the hotel in the case of an emergency. The hotel s phone number is listed on the itinerary. Nowak Travel will be updating their website with our arrival time on June 4. Please check this message, because arrival times are approximate. The trip coordinators will also be in direct contact with the school administrators at all times. CELL PHONES ARE PERMITTED. More specific rules and restrictions will be discussed when the final packet comes out. The cell phone number of the administrator attending the trip will be listed in the final packet. We will probably be able to set up an Alert Now message to call parents with our arrival time. Nowak Tour & Travel: www.nowaktours.com Money: Students are permitted to bring spending money on the trip. The itinerary outlines the activities for the trip. All transportation, lodging, meals and admissions are included in the price. However, students may want spending money for souvenirs, etc. STUDENTS are responsible for all money and valuables brought on the trip.
