What is an NVQ? A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a work based award that is achieved through assessment and if necessary further training. To achieve an NVQ, candidates must prove they have the competence to carry out their job to the required standard. The NVQs we offer are based on National Occupational Standards that describe the competencies required to work in the Asbestos Industry. Is it a test? No, an NVQ is an assessment which is tailored to an individual s preferred learning style. How much is an NVQ worth? An NVQ at Level 2 is comparable to four or five GCSEs at grades A* C. How does an NVQ compare to other asbestos competency qualifications? An Asbestos NVQ is a weighty qualification worth almost three times more than other asbestos competency qualifications due to the in depth nature of an NVQ. How much does it cost? CITB funding streams and criteria TICA-ACAD has a long standing relationship with funding partners accessing Skills Funding Agency funding for individuals wishing to progress their industry qualification. TICA-ACAD has also successfully bid for a CITB Qualifying the Workforce contract which has brought additional funding into our Asbestos industry. The cost to an employer for an NVQ without the support of ACAD would be 1,500. The substantial funding TICA-ACAD has secured allows us to deliver NVQ certificates of competence to TICA-ACAD members from just 97 each. Asbestos Industry N V Q C O M PE T E N C E Licensed Contractor 0.5% PAYE In partnership with Grant funding CITB Levy, should you be paying? CITB have very simple criteria to see if you should be paying the Levy. If the main activity (at least 51%) of your business is removing asbestos from buildings or part of a building then you are Inscope. This is not based on turnover, but on main activity and the percentage of employees used or the time taken. For further information on the CITB Levy please see www.citb. co.uk/levy. In partnership with How much does it cost? The current rate is 0.5% for PAYE payroll, and 1.5% for Labour Only Sub Contractors (LOSC). Companies pay nothing if their payroll is less than 80k and only pay the full rate once their payroll exceeds 100k. What happens with this money? On behalf of the industry CITB operates a Grants Scheme and supports companies who train and invest in their employees! How much could my company claim? There are rules around this but the standard rate in 2014 for an NVQ achievement is 400 and a day rate of 50 per day for training courses. Both of these can be boosted by a further 22% for eligible companies. CITB have lots of schemes designed to support all types of businesses and have almost 100 Company Development Advisors throughout the UK to explain the process and help you claim as much as possible.
