ACAD Guide to NVQ Achievement and Certificate of Competence

The Process NVQs are primarily focussed on evidence gathering from real live sites, not simulated environments. This process allows for the efficient, site based assessment and evidence gathering with minimal downtime. Product Evidence Witness Testimony Knowledge Questions Operatives do not need to travel to a remote training centre, instead ACAD assessors come to you. Please note, not all of these steps are required; they just illustrate the range of options as NVQs are tailored to the individual requirements of each learner. Live Site Observations Through our growing relationship with CITB and our successful track record in quality and delivery, TICA- ACAD have secured substantial funding to deliver equal standards of training and qualifications through ACAD to the Asbestos industry from our Ofsted accredited National Training Centre. Throughout UK construction NVQ Diploma achievement is nationally recognised as proof of competence. Over 94% of ACAD members believe NVQ s are necessary for the future success of our industry. Professional Discussion Initial Assessment Marion Marsland Chief Executive TICA All ACAD members can currently access these from less than 100 per operative. Certification

What s in it for me? Frequently asked questions Get Ahead Employer benefits Full 5 year CSCS card, the leading certification card scheme for construction Unrivalled proof of competence for your workforce Improving standards Recognition by UK construction Enhanced Health and Safety PQQ advantage Availability of funding through ACAD CITB grants available for levy payers Employee benefits YOUR passport to work on UK Construction sites Obtain the most thorough proof of your competence Gain a nationally recognised Vocational Qualification recognised across UK construction An action resulting from the Government Industrial Strategy: Construction 2025 is: To identify one card scheme which will be promoted through public procurement; in moving this forward the Construction Delivery Group, reporting to the Construction Leadership Council, unanimously agreed that the minimum standard for skilled occupations should be NVQ level 2. What is an NVQ? A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a work based award that is achieved through assessment and if necessary further training. To achieve an NVQ, candidates must prove they have the competence to carry out their job to the required standard. The NVQs we offer are based on National Occupational Standards that describe the competencies required to work in the Asbestos Industry. Is it a test? No, an NVQ is an assessment which is tailored to an individual s preferred learning style. How much is an NVQ worth? An NVQ at Level 2 is comparable to four or five GCSEs at grades A* C. How does an NVQ compare to other asbestos competency qualifications? An Asbestos NVQ is a weighty qualification worth almost three times more than other asbestos competency qualifications due to the in depth nature of an NVQ. FULL NVQ DIPLOMA 42 Credits Certificate Qualifications 15 Credits ACAD believes an NVQ is at an appropriate standard for our highly legislated industry. Is an NVQ suitable for all operatives? NVQs are aimed at employees with at least two years experience in our industry. How do I find out more? The ACAD team will be happy to answer any queries you might have regarding the NVQs we deliver, simply contact us at enquiries@tica-acad.co.uk

How much does it cost? CITB funding streams and criteria TICA-ACAD has a long standing relationship with funding partners accessing Skills Funding Agency funding for individuals wishing to progress their industry qualification. TICA-ACAD has also successfully bid for a CITB Qualifying the Workforce contract which has brought additional funding into our Asbestos industry. The cost to an employer for an NVQ without the support of ACAD would be 1,500. The substantial funding TICA-ACAD has secured allows us to deliver NVQ certificates of competence to TICA-ACAD members from just 97 each. Asbestos Industry N V Q C O M PE T E N C E Licensed Contractor 0.5% PAYE In partnership with Grant funding CITB Levy, should you be paying? CITB have very simple criteria to see if you should be paying the Levy. If the main activity (at least 51%) of your business is removing asbestos from buildings or part of a building then you are Inscope. This is not based on turnover, but on main activity and the percentage of employees used or the time taken. For further information on the CITB Levy please see www.citb. co.uk/levy. In partnership with How much does it cost? The current rate is 0.5% for PAYE payroll, and 1.5% for Labour Only Sub Contractors (LOSC). Companies pay nothing if their payroll is less than 80k and only pay the full rate once their payroll exceeds 100k. What happens with this money? On behalf of the industry CITB operates a Grants Scheme and supports companies who train and invest in their employees! How much could my company claim? There are rules around this but the standard rate in 2014 for an NVQ achievement is 400 and a day rate of 50 per day for training courses. Both of these can be boosted by a further 22% for eligible companies. CITB have lots of schemes designed to support all types of businesses and have almost 100 Company Development Advisors throughout the UK to explain the process and help you claim as much as possible. We can arrange for a CDA to contact you. Simply email us at enquiries@ tica-acad.co.uk or telephone +44 (0)1325 466704.
