Program architecture Program architecture The client/server architecture of AdRem Network Inventory allows connecting multiple Network Inventory Consoles to one Network Inventory Server. The program contains the following components: Network Inventory Server allows collecting audit data from inventoried devices. Network Inventory Console the Graphical User Interface used for managing all tasks related to network inventorying process. It is installed along with the AdRem Network Inventory program. The Network Inventory Console is also distributed in a separate installation file and can be installed on many network machines running Windows operating system. However, in order to perform inventory monitoring, the AdRem Network Inventory program (along with the Network Inventory Server) must be installed. Database Server the program comes with the MS SQL Server Express, which can be installed conveniently in one installation process. MS SQL Server Native Client used for communication between the Network Inventory Console and Database Server. The program provides the MS SQL Native Client 10. It is installed only when no such client is installed or an older version is being used. Client Agent installed on inventoried network devices and dedicated to perform inventory audits selected by the user. Portable Audit Collector dedicated to perform audits by the user, directly on a particular network device. AdRem Network Inventory is distributed in two installation files: ANIServer1.exe used to install the complete program package which contains all components described above. ANIConsole1.exe the AdRem Network Inventory Console, dedicated to be installed on remote Windows machines. It also contains the MS SQL Server Native Client 10. Note Please note that the AdRem Network Inventory program allows inventorying only network devices running the Windows operating systems currently supported by Microsoft. 4

Utilizing licenses Utilizing licenses General notes AdRem Software provides the opportunity to try the program before you buy it. The full featured version of the program can be downloaded and used during a trial period. When the program is started in the trial period, the AdRem Network Inventory wizard is automatically invoked to assist in installing the purchased license. However, the user can decide to continue the trial period. Once the trial period expires, only collected inventory information and demonstration database can be accessed. The program is available in Standard and Professional editions. Differences between the two program editions are described below. The Standard edition allows managing inventory information up to 250 devices. The MS SQL Server Express provided in the program package limits the amount of stored data. Therefore, it is dedicated to be used in the Standard program edition. The Professional edition allows inventorying unlimited number of devices. Therefore, it is recommended to use the SQL database that enables storing the amount of data related to the size of inventoried network. In addition to managing inventory information collected from the network, the program allows storing custom information related to inventoried devices for the evidence purposes (e.g. purchasing information, invoices, maintenance records, etc) in the properties extensions. The program allows creating any number of properties extensions. However, the Standard edition allows enabling only three extensions at the same time. The license allows installing AdRem Network Inventory program package containing all components on a single Windows machine as well as upgrading the program from a trial to the full version. The Network Inventory Console, distributed in separate installation file can be installed and used on many remote Windows machines. Notice that the license purchased for the Standard program edition cannot be used for the Professional edition and vice versa. In order to change the edition, the program needs to be reinstalled, except for the inventory database. 5

Licenses installation procedure Licenses installation procedure To install license for the first time, the license files must be downloaded from the MyAdRem portal. Downloading program files and purchased license files 1. Login to the MyAdRem portal. Click on the link to the MyAdRem portal (https://www.myadrem.com). This link is also included in the e-mail received from AdRem Software. The MyAdRem Login window opens. Enter the user ID and Password received in the e-mail to enter the MyAdRem customer portal. Typically, ID is the e-mail address of the end user specified in the Purchase Order. 2. Download program installation files and Program License from the MyAdRem portal. The main page of the AdRem customer portal contains the list of all products and licenses purchased by an organization. In the Product Name column, select the Network Inventory program. The program download page is opened. On the Program Downloading tab, click on the link to download Network Inventory Server. On the License Downloading tab, the list of the purchased product licenses is presented. Each license consists of two files that must be downloaded. For your convenience, all license files can be downloaded as a single.zip file and unpacked in the same folder. Installing the License To install the purchased license during the trial period 1. Start the Network Inventory Console. The AdRem Network Inventory wizard is opened. 2. Select the I have a license file and I want to install it option. 3. Click the Next button. 4. Select the Load License button. 5. In the Open window navigate to the previously created folder where the unzipped license files have been saved saved. 6. Highlight the *.als file and click Open. This will start an automatic installation of the purchased license on the monitoring station. Note In the case the Network Inventory Console is opened select File Install License item from the main menu and follow abovementioned instruction from step 4. 6

Licenses installation procedure Most common licenses installation problems If the license installation is not successful, one of the following may be the reason: The Activate.key file is missing from the folder where you saved the *.als file. Make sure that Activate.key is located in this folder One of the license files has the read-only attribute The license file is corrupted The windows registry was modified or erased Notes Please note that all license files of the same license type must be downloaded into the same folder. To install licenses, the folder containing license files must be accessible from the Network Inventory Console used for installing licenses. Licenses are always installed on the server, regardless of using Network Inventory Console locally or remotely. When no license is installed, the program runs in the trial period. Installing the purchased License will end the trial period and start using the program as the full version.
