3 Running out of free disk space on the server where important application is hosted not only disrupts the performance of employees or customers who use it to accomplish their daily tasks, but can result in serious data loss, or even crash the entire server. NetCrunch makes it easy for you act before such situation takes place. You can use the predefined rule to monitor free space of C:\ drive in NetCrunch, or create a new one for monitoring applications running on another drive (D; E etc.). Here s how to set up new disc space monitoring rule for the SQL server to be notified when free disc space gets below the defined warning level. 1. Right-click on the SQL Server device in NetCrunch and select Edit Node Alerting Policy from the context menu. 3

4 2. Create a new event to monitor free space on any disk of the SQL database by clicking Add button and select Windows tab. 3. If your SQL database server stores the data on another drive (for example D:\ drive), double-click Select to create new Windows Application Performance Threshold option and change it to the proper disc partition (D:\ in our case) 4

5 4. Within Edit Event Definition window click on the Performance Counter link to browse disks you would like to monitor. Make sure that Logical Disk item is selected from the Performance Object drop down menu. 5. Select the drive where SQL database stores its data (D:\ in our case). 6. Set up the threshold value for the event (i.e. when free disk space drops below 20%) and click OK. 5
