Welcome note Dear colleagues, Pelvic and acetabular surgery is still a major challenge even for the experienced trauma and orthopedic surgeons. Over the last years, several surgical procedures have been established which do require a detailed knowledge of the anatomical topography and architecture of the pelvis to ensure a safe and effective application of these techniques in the care for our patients. Our course aims to in-depth teach participants in cadaveric specimen the most important surgical approaches to the acetabulum and pelvic ring. In addition, techniques of computer-navigated pelvic surgery will be shown, and fi nally the technique of surgical hip dislocation in trauma surgery will be demonstrated hands on. Renowned international experts in the field of pelvic and acetabular surgery have been invited as speakers and instructors for this year s pelvic course. The main focus of the event will be practical exercises, communication, learning tips/tricks, technical features and simplifying steps and methods those things that are most important for successful pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery and cannot be taught in large groups. Therefore the number of participants had to be limited to a ratio of 3:1 (participating colleagues per instructor), thus you may work directly and intensely with an expert. We suggest an early registration due to this limitation of participants. We are looking forward to your participation and would be delighted to meet you in Hamburg. Sincerely Johannes M. Rueger Lars G. Großterlinden 4

Welcome to Hamburg The Hamburg experience Visitors and locals make a beeline for the Reeperbahn, Hamburg s hottest party strip. St. Pauli and the Schanzenviertel district next-door are positively bursting with bars, pubs, clubs, cafés and discos for sampling the nightlife. Hamburg offers a dazzling choice of events all year round, so everyone s in for an exciting time. For instance there s the Port Anniversary in May (the world s biggest port festival), the Hamburger DOM (the biggest funfair in north Germany) and a tantalising variety of Christmas markets. Tourism in Hamburg a story of success Hamburg s maritime atmosphere and the sheer diversity of its attractions make it truly unique. More and more visitors are enjoying the Hamburg experience. A new record was set in 2009, with 8.2 million overnight stays (6 per cent up on the previous year). This puts Hamburg in 13th place among European city destinations and it s an upward trend. By 2015 the city aims to generate 11 million overnight stays, and 13.5 million by 2020. Key infrastructure projects, including the HafenCity development and the airport expansion, are already well underway. Many, many more visitors are going to discover Hamburg s central location in Europe and its excellent transport links. The city is well placed between Berlin and Copenhagen, both just a super-fast train journey away. St. Petersburg and southern Europe are also within easy reach. Hamburg never sleeps. It just keeps on embracing one adventure after the next, its heartbeat strong. But there s nothing quite like your own experience of Hamburg the vibrant city destination on the river Elbe.
