LOGIN SCREEN STEP 1 : When you Log In, the File Transfer Server will try and automatically determine what type of enhanced client should be installed, either a Java based client for Firefox or ActiveX for Internet Explorer. If neither are able to be installed, a basic client will load. STEP 2 : After your browser has been evaluated, you will be presented with a log in window. The username and password was supplied in your invitation email (see the New User, First Login quickstart guide. Once you successfully log in, the client install process will start. This only happens the first time you log in with a new browser. This quick start guide is broken up into three sections going forward, one is for Firefox which uses a Java client, one is for Internet Explorer which uses ActiveX and one is for the Lite client which lacks a few nice features but should work in any browser no matter what permissions and security measures are on your network or your computer. 2
FIREFOX enhanced Java WebClient STEP 1 : The Java install process involves an automated Java Runtime Environment download and install. All you will need to do is click buttons to advance the install to the next step. On the initial screen you will click the Run button STEP 2 : The type of install chooser window will appear, we recommend clicking Typical setup and then click the Accept button 3
STEP 3 : If you now get an option to install Google Desktop, don t. Google Desktop plays no part in the File Transfer Server and is known to cause computers to run slower. Uncheck the Google Desktop checkbox and click the Next button STEP 4 : The Java Runtime Environment will then begin to download. 4
STEP 5 : Once the download is finished, you will get a pop up that asks you to Run the package for installation. Click the Run button and Java will install. STEP 6 : At this point if the Java install is successful you will see your Package Inbox as seen below. If the install fails, you ll get a text box with Failed highlighted in Red. In which case you will see a Lite button to launch the non-enhanced version of the Web Client. If you are presented with your Package Inbox you can now begin using the server. We recommend you read the Sending or Receiving files quick start guides. 5
INTERNET EXPLORER Enhanced ActiveX WebClient INTERNET EXPLORER v7 STEP 1 : The screens for the Enhanced WebClient are different between IE6 and IE7, first we ll cover IE7. This window is the ActiveX WebClient install start window. 6
STEP 2 : You are going to get a blocked ActiveX message initially due to IE7 s advanced security features. You will see the Information Bar pop-up which will let you install the ActiveX WebClient and behind that on the main browser window you will see two buttons, one Retry and one Lite. Clicking the Lite button will launch the standard WebClient Lite covered at the end of this documentation. For now click Close on the Information Bar pop-up. STEP 3 : Click the yellow information bar at the top of the IE7 screen where it says click here and pick Install ActiveX Control as illustrated 7
STEP 4 : Once you have told IE7 it s ok to install the WebClient, you will get two popup boxes, one after another. Simply click Install on both. STEP 5 : The WebClient should now load up for you to start using the File Transfer Server. 8
INTERNET EXPLORER v6 STEP 1 : The screens for the Enhanced WebClient are different between IE6 and IE7, first we ll cover IE6. This window is the ActiveX WebClient install start window. 9
STEP 2 : After a slight pause at Step 1 s screen, you should get the following pop-up box asking to install an ActiveX control. Click the Yes button to continue. STEP 3 : The pop up box will go away and if all is successful you should see a checkmark displayed beside 1. Package transfer ActiveX control in the browser window. After a brief pause, another pop up will appear, click Yes to install the next piece. 10
STEP 4 : If the second ActiveX control installs successfully, you ll briefly see a checkmark appear beside line 2 of the main browser window before the Package Inbox loads. 11
LITE WebClient The Lite WebClient provides basic functionality to exchange files with us. You will use the Lite WebClient if ActiveX is blocked or the Java client can t install, it s possible you don t have security permissions to allow these things to install or your office is blocking these types of components. Two things the Lite WebClient will not let you do are select multiple files from your computer to send to us, you have to select them one at a time. You also will not be able to continue a download if it fails for some reason, you will need to re-start the download from the beginning. STEP 1 : This is an example of the screen you will see if one of the Enhanced WebClients are unable to install. Simply click the Lite button highlighted in the picture to launch the Lite WebClient. STEP 2 : Once the Lite WebClient has been launched, the layout is almost the same as the Enhanced version just with a few options on the left missing such as Resume Download. 12
