1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Dignitas Tutor Training Courseware is a compact, easy to use program designed to train prospective tutors and help tutors meet their CRLA certification requirements. This version is the first official release of the product, and we encourage feedback to improve and enhance the courses. Instructions on how to provide feedback is detailed in Section 9. PRODUCT FEEDBACK. The Tutor Training courseware currently includes seven tutor training courses as listed below: 1. Introduction to Tutoring 2. Basics of Tutoring 3. Communication Methods 4. Boundaries and Ethics 5. Session Techniques 6. Goal Setting 7. If You Only Knew The following are examples of additional courses planned for future releases: Adult Learners and/or Learning Styles Handling Difficult Students Role Modeling Referral Skills Modeling Problem Solving Active Listening Study Skills Critical Thinking Skills Working with Unmotivated Students 4

Begin by Clicking the Download Evaluation Copy Icon ( ) on the Dignitas elearning Webpage. 2. A new tab with the title Dignitas File Exchange Public Download is opened up in your browser. 3. Type in the password provided in the email, then click the gray folder icon to download the installer. Note: Download times vary depending on your internet connection speed. On average, it takes less than 1 minute to download the file. 4. Once the download has finished, a prompt regarding the content downloaded (as seen below) will appear in the taskbar. 5. Select Show in Folder from the drop-down menu of the downloaded file. Your Downloads folder will appear with the file just downloaded. 6. Double-click on the Tutor_Training_Courseware_v1.0.exe file located in your Downloads folder to start the installation. 2.2. DOWNLOAD VIA INTERNET EXPLORER 1. Begin by Clicking the Download Evaluation Copy Icon ( ) on the Dignitas elearning Webpage. 2. A new tab with the title Dignitas File Exchange Public Download is opened up in your browser. 3. Type in the password provided in the email, then click the gray folder icon to download the installer. Note: Download times vary depending on your internet connection speed. Select Save As from the drop-down menu. Save the file to a location accessible on your computer. Note: At times, once the download has finished, a prompt regarding the content download (as seen below) may appear at the bottom of the webpage. This warning can be ignored. Figure 4 IE warning 3. Double-click on the Tutor_Training_Courseware_v1.0.exe file to start the installation. 3.1. DOWNLOAD VIA FIREFOX 1. Begin by Clicking the Download Evaluation Copy Icon ( ) on the Dignitas elearning Webpage. 2. A new tab with the title Dignitas File Exchange Public Download is opened up in your browser. 3. Type in the password provided in the email and press Enter to download the file. 4. In the window that appears (as seen below), check the select Save File. Note: Download times vary depending on your internet connection speed. On average, it takes less than 1 minute to download the file. 6

3.2. INSTALLING THE TUTOR TRAINING COURSEWARE 1. Double-click on the Tutor_Training_Courseware_v1.0.exe file located in your Downloads folder to start the installation. 2. At the prompt, select Run as seen below. Figure 6 Verify publisher prompt 3. Follow the steps provided by the install wizard. 8
4. LAUNCHING THE TUTOR TRAINING COURSEWARE 1. Double-click the Tutor_Training v1.0 shortcut created on your desktop. Note: If Create Shortcut on Desktop checkbox was not checked during the installation process, and there is not a shortcut on the Desktop, double-click the launchgift.bat file in the folder the files were installed in to launch the courseware (typically in C:/Dignitas_eLearning/Tutor_Training_Courseware/). Please be patient as it takes a few seconds for the Tutor Training Courseware to load in your browser (as seen below). Figure 7 Dignitas Tutor elearning Home Page 5. STARTING TO TUTOR ELEARNING 5.1. STUDENT ACCOUNT 1. Login using your user name (first initial and last name) and enter any password. 5.1.1. TAKE A COURSE To launch a tutoring course: 1. Click on the Training Modules button. A list of courses populates the menu. 2. Double-click on a course from the list. OR Select to highlight the course and then click the green Start button. 5.1.2. TAKE THE ASSESSMENT 9
When finished taking a course, select the blue Continue to Assessment at the bottom of the page. 5.1.3. VIEW RESULTS AND/OR PRINT CERTIFICATE OF A COURSE When finished with the assessment, select the Results button to review the results for each question, or select Print Certificate to print out a course completion certificate. 5.1.4. VIEW TRAINING RESULTS This menu provides a list of courses taken and the score achieved. To print a certificate, select to highlight a course and select Print Certificate. 5.2. ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT The administrator is able to view student results by logging in on the workstation that the student used to do the tutor training. In other words, the administrator will have to log into multiple workstations to gather students results if multiple workstations were used for the tutor training. 1. Login using admin as the username and admin as the password. 5.2.1. VIEW STUDENT RESULTS 1. To view students training results, click the Student Results from the Instructor Home page. 2. Select a student from the drop-down menu. A list of the courses the student completed will be displayed along with the scoring for each course. 5.2.2. DOWNLOAD STUDENT RESULTS 1. To download the student s results, click the Download Student History button. A.csv file containing the student s course history will be created in the located specified at the download prompt. Double-click the.csv file created to open the results in an Excel spreadsheet. Note: If the download does not start in a few seconds, please click the click here link to specify a location where the.csv file will be saved. 6. SIGN OUT OF TUTOR ELEARNING Sign out of the Tutor Training session by clicking on the User drop-down at the top menu bar and selecting Sign Out. 7. PROPER SHUTDOWN TUTOR ELEARNING INSTRUCTIONS When finished with the Tutor Training session, close the Tutor Training Courseware by: 1. Select the user name drop-down in the upper right of the Tutoring webpage. 10
2. Select Sign Out and close the internet browser window. 3. In the system tray (located on the right of your taskbar), right-click the GIFT icon ( ) as seen blow and select Exit. PRODUCT FEEDBACK Since this is the first release (v1.0) of the Tutor Training Courseware, we would appreciate any feedback you can provide on the program. Your feedback will be used to improve and enhance the Tutor elearning program. Double-click the Feedback Icon ( ) located in the website to help you document your feedback and comments. A form as seen below will appear. 11

Are the courses presented in a manner that helps learning? Are the courses interactive enough? Are the practice questions during the courses helpful? We are also interested in your opinion on the overall look and feel of the program. Again, your input is critical to making this program helpful to tutors. 9. SUPPORT If you are experiencing technical difficulties with the Tutor Training Courseware, please double-click the Support Icon ( ) located on the desktop. A form as seen below will appear. Figure 10 Support Form 10. KNOWN LIMITATIONS AND TROUBLESHOOTING 1. The Tutor Training Courseware tool is currently NOT compatible with MAC OS. 2. If you do not hear any audio, make sure the volume on your computer and remote desktop is not muted and is loud enough. Additionally, you can adjust the volume within the course by clicking on the volume icon ( ) and adjusting the loudness to your preference. 3. If at any point the Tutor Training Courseware webpage becomes unresponsive: a. Open the Windows Task Manager and select the Processes tab b. Find the java.exe and javaw.exe processes c. For both processes, right-click and select End Process d. Relaunch the Tutor Training Courseware by following the Launch Instructions above 4. If at any point the Tutoring Web Page is closed unexpectedly and needs to be reopened: a. On the Taskbar, right click the GIFT icon and select Open Tutor Webpage 5. There are two Home buttons; one within the Tutor elearning webpage, and one within each course. When exiting a course early using the Home icon in the upper right within the course, the only button available reads Continue to Assessment. This button will take the user back to the course list. 6. If you happen to fail each questions on an assessment, there could be a possibility that a negative percentage is calculated as the score. This negative percentage score should just be translated into receiving a score of 0% for that assessment. 13
