Introduction Defining terms: Geospatial Technology, Geospatial Sciences & Geomatics are normally used interchangeably A systemic, multidisciplinary, integrated approach to selecting the instruments and the appropriate techniques for collecting, storing, integrating, modeling, analyzing, retrieving at will, transforming, displaying and distributing spatially geo-referenced data from different sources with well-defined accuracy characteristics, continuity and in a digital format (Gomarasa, 2009).

Geospatial Training at Ardhi University Ardhi University (ARU) history dates back to 1957 training surveyors at certificate level It is a public higher learning institution It offers academic degree program in land related disciplines Land Management Urban Planning Architecture Building Economics Environment, Civil engineering and Land Surveying or Geomatics Today ARU Produce graduates with Undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications (i.e PgD, BSc, MSc/MA and PhD)

Geospatial Training at Ardhi University School of Geospatial Sciences and Technology Dedicated school for academic programs in Geomatics and Geoinformatics It has two departments offering the following undergraduate degree programs: o Bachelor of Science in Geomatics (4 years duration) o Bachelor of Science in Geoinfomatics (4 years duration) o Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management (3 years duration). IT and SE will be offered starting next academic year

Curriculum and Curriculum Development Themes for undergrduate Curriculum The themes in the third and fourth years of study are program specific as follows: i) Geomatics 3 rd Year: Engineering Surveys (semester I), Satellite and Mining (semester II). 4 th Year: Under Water Mapping (semester I) and Dissertation (semester II). ii) Geoinformatics 3 rd Year: Geographic Information Systems (semester I), Digital image processing and visualization (semester II). 4 th Year: Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) (semester I) and Dissertation (semester II). iii) Geodetic Sciences 3rd Year: Control surveys (semester I), Geodesy (semester II). 4th Year: Advances in geodesy (semester I) and Dissertation (semester II).

Teaching Resource Both students and faculties need good learning, teaching and research environment There has been a challenge for conducive learning environment However, the situation is being improved and things are getting better after sensitization at management level.

Zeno GIS Data Collectors - 2 6. Gravimeter - 1 7. Automatic Tide Gauge 1 8. Automatic Levels 4 9. Large format plotter 2 10. Large format High Resolution Scanners 1 11. Digital Photogrammetric Workstation (DPW) - 1

Employment According to the tracer study conducted by Ardhi University: Geomatics and Geoinformatics is considered an added advantage to self-employment or employment in public and private sector. Geospatial education creates opportunities for spatial perspectives in many specialties.

Concluding Remarks In Tanzania there is a policy on: Strengthening University collaboration for sharing resources (University to University MoU) Strengthening Industry-Universities collaboration (Industry-University Collaboration MoU) Ardhi University-NOKIA MoU in final stage for mapping transport-road network Non-PhD Research need strenghtening

Concluding Remarks Ardhi University has addressed the need for adoption of pedagogical approaches for problem based teaching and active learning Using GIS as a teaching and learning tool 4th International Conference on Development Policy
