Gartner bases the concept of the Magic Quadrant on customer-oriented market analysis, with emphasis on completeness of vision and ability to execute. To qualify for inclusion in the MDM Magic Quadrant, a vendor must offer data collection, meter command management, validating and editing reads, exception management, event management, estimation for invalid and missing reads, profiling scalar meter reads, bill determinant calculation, meter read aggregation, meter inventory tracking, data provision to downstream systems such as CIS, information provision directly to end users, and additional supporting functions. Solutions must also be scalable to support the interval meter reading required for the deployment of economic demand-response programs in the residential market.
