STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE/BEHIND THE SCENES BEHIND THE SCENES JULY 20-24, 10AM 5PM Seminars and workshops with film industry professionals (including editors, screenwriters, cinematographers, producers, talent agents, acting coaches, directors, animators, foley artists, sound designers, stunt people, and wardrobe and makeup people), will familiarize students with the art and business of film. A screening of a silent film with live accompaniment will also be included. Held at Smith Rafael Film Center. Tuition: $350. Lunches not provided. Please bring a bag lunch. Why do you think it is important to learn about film and video? How much television do you watch every day (number of hours on average)? What do you watch? Why? Write a review of your favorite movie in a minimum of 15 lines. Write as if you were reviewing the movie for your local newspaper or school paper. (Use an extra sheet for your answer.) STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE/YOUNG CURATORS YOUNG CURATORS JULY 28-30, 10AM 5PM The Young Curators meets for three days to choose the Youth Reel for the Mill Valley Film Festival. Entries for the reel come from all over the US as well as some international entries. The group reviews about 125 short films, decides which ones will be included in a 90-minute reel and learns how to curate the reel by ordering the films into a cohesive program. To qualify for the Jury, students must have taken the first week of Summerfilm, Behind the Scenes, held at Smith Rafael Film Center. Tuition: $50. Lunches are provided. Are you very vocal about your opinions? Can you listen respectfully to other s opinions? You will be defending your choices to other jurors equally committed to their choices. Can you accept those debates as part of the process? You will sit a lot! Can you sit a lot and concentrate? Young Curators receive multiple benefits at the Mill Valley Film Festival, including free tickets. We expect Young Curators to attend (free) the screening of the Youth Reel on the second Saturday of the Mill Valley Film Festival, on October 17th, time to be determined. Can you commit to that date? STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE/ANIMATION FILMMAKING ANIMATION FILMMAKING JULY 27-31, 10AM 5PM Five days of animated film instruction featuring both the use of the internationally lauded Toon Boom software, hand drawing with light boxes, as well as some stop-motion animation. Animation professionals will work with students to create a story and a 1 3 minute film. Students can choose to either work alone or with a team. A DVD of the work completed will be given to each student a week after the workshop. Held at the Intel Computer Clubhouse on Third Street in San Rafael. Tuition $650.
