Marketing and Communications Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Marketing and Communications Manager Project: 2015 Sydney International Rowing Regatta Project Owner: Rowing Australia Reporting to: SIRR Project Manager Starting Date: October 2014 Finish Date: 30 April 2015 1. BACKGROUND In March 2014 the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) was the staging venue for Australia s largest rowing event, the Sydney International Rowing Regatta (SIRR). The week-long event was hosted by Rowing Australia (RA), in partnership with FISA (international rowing federation), Destination NSW (Strategic Partner) and Singapore Airlines (Presenting Partner) comprised the following domestic and international competitions: Australian Open Rowing Championships Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships King s and Queen s Cups Interstate Regatta World Rowing Cup 1 From Sunday 23 to Sunday 30 March 2014 a total of 1880 domestic and 160 international athletes competed in 117 events over the eight days of competition, making the SIRR the biggest National Championship event hosted, and the largest regatta held at SIRC since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The event marked the second time a World Rowing Cup has been held in the Southern Hemisphere and was represented by 21 countries, including Olympians and Olympic medallists from the London 2012 Olympic Games and 2013 World Rowing Championships competed in the World Rowing Cup events. Total attendance (including bump-in and bump-out) for SIRR 2014 (which includes multiple visits) was 33,537. 2. ROLE Reporting to the SIRR Project Manager the primary responsibility of the Marketing and Communications Manager will be to develop and implement a strategic Marketing and Communication plan to drive ticket sales for 2015 Sydney International Rowing Regatta. The Marketing and Communication Manager will use their experience to build awareness of the Australian National Championship events and interest in the sport of Rowing in Australia. The role involves management of key stakeholder, partner and supplier relationships to maximize the positive outcomes for all parties. 3. RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the SIRR Project Manager, the SIRR Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for: In consultation and collaboration with the SIRR Project Manager, the SIRR Media and Broadcast Manager, lead the development of the SIRR 2015 Marketing and Communications Plan. Work in collaboration with the Media and Broadcast Manager and contribute to the development of the SIRR 2015 Media and Public Relations Plan Provide direction and advice on SIRR brand guidelines. In collaboration with key staff to establish the 2015 event aims, objectives and KPI s. Maintain the SIRR event website, which includes developing website content and managing the overall look and feel of the site. Coordinate and manage all advertising and PR activities including design, content and liaison with distribution outlets. Create, develop and manage the SIRR edm as a primary tool for direct marketing, including editorial and design. Manage the design, production and distribution of all other relevant forms of event marketing collateral. Working closely with schools, clubs, universities and partners to grow the existing event database and broaden the event reach Working closely with key Event Partners and the Commercial Sales Executive to service any contracted deliverables, including Destination NSW Ticketek Event Sponsors Media Partners Work closely with State bodies to roll-out consistent marketing and communications program. 5. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE a) Previous and recent experience in event marketing and communications b) Experience in managing high level relationships c) Proven track record in the development and implementation of Marketing and Communications plans d) Experience in delivery of social media marketing campaigns Sydney International Rowing Regatta Marketing and Communications Manager Page 3 of 5
e) Experience in creating and writing copy for marketing campaigns, advertisements, E- Newsletters and edms f) Experience with website CMS, Joomla highly desirable g) High level written and verbal communication skills h) HTML skills are highly desirable. 6. QUALIFICATIONS Tertiary qualifications in marketing. 7. EXPECTATIONS Complete responsibilities as specified above Attend planning meetings as required Work cooperatively with all members and facets of the Project Team and SIRR Project Board Act in good faith to maintain high standards of customer service Ensure safe WHS and manual handling practices are undertaken (where required training may be provided to individuals) mutually resolve conflicts as soon as practicable and to the satisfaction of both parties Indicate any risks that may arise during the time of the project to the SIRR Project Manager and Event Operations Manager Comply with the level of delegation given to the position Comply with all approval processes that are implemented by the Project board 8. FINANCIAL DELEGATION NIL 9. HOURS Part-time, up to 24-hours per week. Depending on workload and priorities this may increase in the lead up and during the event.
