Paramedic Associate in Applied Science Degree *SEE PROGRAM ADVISOR* Two-Year Program This is a full-time program designed to provide students the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to enter and progress in the Emergency Medical Services occupation as employees of prehospital care providers and other health care facilities that provide emergency medical care. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Registry Examination as administered by the National Registrar of Emergency Medical Technicians. Course curriculum is subject to change without prior notice. Admission Requirements: 1) unconditional admission to the college, 2) receipt of completed application for the Paramedic program, 3) possession of a current Alabama AEMT License prior to the beginning of the clinical component, 4) minimum 2.0 GPA in all previous EMS coursework, 5) good standing with the college, 6) meeting the Essential Functions or Technical Standards required for Emergency Medical Services, and 7) eligibility for college level English 101, Math 100 or higher, and a minimum score of 40 on the ASSET reading exam. Once admitted, students must provide a background check, drug screening, medical insurance, immunization records and a physical exam. All general education requirements must be completed prior to the last semester of the program. Current, unemcumbered Alabama EMT License is acceptable credit for EMS118 and EMS119. Documents must be presented to Adminissions/Registrar to receive credit. Paramedic - Advanced Placement Associate in Applied Science Degree Three Semesters This alternative pathway for completion of the Paramedic AAS is designed to allow students with previous completed college course work to start at the paramedic level of education. This program will provide students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to work in the Emergency Medical Services as an advanced level provider. Upon successful completion of this degree the student will be eligible to take the National Registry Examination as administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Admission Requirements: 1) unconditional admission to the college, 2) receipt of completed advanced placement application to the Paramedic level, 3) completion of the following required general education course work from an regionally accredited college; English Composition 1; A&P 1; A&P 2; Intermediate college algebra or higher; General Psychology, 4) receipt of official college transcripts to office of Admissions or Registrar office identifying the required entry course work and a GPA of 2.50 cumulative. 5) Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, physical and drug screen to meet all essential functions for program. Paramedic to ADN Mobility Associate in Applied Science Degree *SEE PROGRAM ADVISOR* Three Semester Program This is a day program designed to prepare Licensed Paramedics to practice as competent registered nurses, after successfully completing the National Council Licensure Examination. Licensure by the Boards of Nursing may be denied if an applicant has been convicted of a criminal offense, has abused drugs/alcohol, has a history of chemical dependency or mental illness, has been placed on the federal abuse registry, or has been administratively discharged from the armed services Admission Requirements: Students are selected based on the following point system: 1)Nursing Entrance Exam worth a max of 150 points; 2) A&P I, A&P II, and Microbiology awarded 30 pts for grade of an A, 20 pts for a B, 10 pts for a C ; 3) ENG 101, MTH 100, PSY 200, PSY 210, SPH 107, and a Humanities elective awarded 1 pt each if completed with a C or higher; 5 extra points awarded for a higher level Math or Chemistry. There is a maximum of 251 points possible. A separate nursing application is due by June 1. To be eligible applicants must be in good standing and in active status at Faulkner State. All original transcripts must be submitted to the admissions department. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 for the last 24 hrs of college credits. Applicants must have a valid unencumbered Alabama Paramedic license, an Associate Degree in Paramedic, and documentation of one year work experience as a paramedic within the past 20 months. Pre-requisites are ENG 101, Math 100 or higher, PSY 200, BIO 201, BIO 202, BIO 220, SPH 107, and a Humanities Elective. Once selected for the program, students are required to provide the following: drug screen, background check, physical exam showing ability to meet essential functions, record of immunizations, proof of current healthcare professional CPR certification, and proof of medical insurance. All nursing courses must be passed with a minimum of 75 ( C ) in order to progress in the program. Application packets and nursing entrance exam information are available from FSCC s website. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Training Certificate DEGREE: Certificate of Completion one Semester This program is designed to prepare students for employment as Emergency Medical Technicians at the advanced level. Upon completion of the training certificate, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry examination. An Alabama Advanced EMT license is obtained by passing this examination.
