Handel Academy 2015 Terms and conditions of participation in master workshops 1. The organizers of the Handel Academy festival, part of which are the master workshops, are: National Forum of Music, head-office in Wrocław, ul. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 19, 50-044 Wrocław Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, head-office pl. Jana Pawła II nr 2, 50-043 Wrocław 2. The workshops are meant primarily for students of Polish conservatoires, with possible participation of students of other universities, including international conservatoires/universities, and of graduates. 3. Terms of active participation in workshops: a) General terms - participants take part in master workshops and rehearsals of the Festival Orchestra and Choir on 7-13 February 2015 and in the concert on 13 February 2015, - the concert programme on 13 February 2015: GF Handel Acis and Galatea HWV 49, - line-up of the Festival Orchestra and Choir: Festival Orchestra: 2 flauti traversi, 1 flute, 2 oboes, 1bassoon 1st violins, 2nd violins, cellos, double basses, keyboard instruments, Festival Choir: SATTTB (ca 24 people),including solo STT(S)B, - workshops teachers: Robert Hollingworth rehearsals with the Festival Orchestra and Choir, conducting the concert on 13 February 2015, Agnieszka Franków-Żelazny rehearsals with the Festival Choir, Jarosław Thiel rehearsals with the Festival Orchestra, Rachel Podger section rehearsals and tutorials (violins, oboes, flutes), participation with students in the concert on 13 February 2015, Marcin Świątkiewicz rehearsals and tutorials (keyboard instruments, recitatives), participation with students in the concert on 13 February 2015, Alison Mc Gillivray section rehearsals and tutorials (cellos, double basses, bassoon), participation with students in the concert on 13 February 2015, Gillian Webster tutorials for singers (arias and recitatives from Acis and Galatea, choral parts, arias from other GF Handel works chosen by participants), 1 / 5
Peter Harvey tutorials for singers (arias and recitatives from Acis and Galatea, choral parts, arias from other GF Handel works), - we provide: included in the participation fee entry to all concerts, open rehearsals, lectures and meetings with artists during Handel Academy; participants of the Festival Choir and Orchestra shall appear in concert on 13 February 2015 in the Wrocław Philharmonic concert hall; after the workshops, participants shall receive certificates of completion of workshops, before workshops, participants shall receive ids and will be able to collect entry tickets for Handel Academy events, - all workshop participants appearing in concert on 13 February 2015 transfer to NFM the right to artistic performances; to this end, participants shall sign separate agreements with NFM and shall be paid a small fee of 50 zl gross (say: fifty zlotys gross) for transferring these rights, - to ensure the best preparation for the concert on 13 February 2015, workshop participants pledge to take part in all the classes being part of the Handel Academy, - organizers provide sheet music for the workshops; for qualification process the candidates shall use their own sheet music. b) Applications and qualifications for the workshops: - singers and instrumentalists shall be chosen by organizers on the basis of qualification, - applications shall be made by submitting the participation form (available at www.nfm.wroclaw.pl/specjalne/akademia-haendlowska with an attached video recording to the following e-mail address: akademiahaendlowska@nfm.wroclaw.pl by 15 January 2015, - recordings shall be attached to the delivered application - repertoire for qualification: I. Instrumentalists: Oboe: Fast movement from a freely chosen solo work; Sinfonia; aria Love sounds ; chorus/aria Must I my Acis... from HWV 49. Singers Soprano: recitative Ye verdant from HWV 49; one chosen aria (Galatea or Damon) from HWV 49; choral part: Wreched from HWV 49. Alto: an operatic or oratorio aria from works by GF Handel; choral parts Wreched ; Happy from HWV 49. Tenor: recitative Help Galatea from HWV 49; one chosen aria (Acis or Damon) from HWV 49; choral part: Wreched ; Happy (1st tenor) from HWV 49. Bass: recitative I rage from HWV 49; one chosen aria (Polyphemus) from HWV 49; choral part: Wreched Happy from HWV 49. - unless stated otherwise, all instrumental and vocal parts are from Acis and Galatea HWV 49, 3 / 5
- oboists, violinists and flautists shall prepare the 1st oboe, 1st violin and 1st flute parts respectively, - the video recording can be made by amateur devices (eg by a smartphone), - the recording must show the musician s entire figure, not covered by the stand (eg a halfprofile shot), - the recordings of harpsichordists/organists must show the player s hands on the keyboard and the music stand with sheet music, - recordings can be made without accompaniment, - recordings shall be made in the a =415 Hz pitch, - the recording file title must include the performer s first and last name for purposes of unmistakable identification, - information about the results of qualification shall be announced by 20 January 2015 on www.nfm.wroclaw.pl/specjalne/akademia-haendlowska, - people qualified to participate in the workshops shall pay a participation fee of 100 zl and deliver the statement of bank transfer to the following e-mail address: akademiahaendlowska@nfm.wroclaw.pl by 25 January 2015; Bank transfer details: Title: first and last name, Händel Academy active workshops, Name of account holder: Narodowe Forum Muzyki ul. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 19, 50-044 Wrocław Account Number (PKO Bank Polski): 25 1020 5242 0000 2802 0182 3707 SWIFT: BPKOPLPW Amount: 100 zł - having qualified for the workshops, selected singers shall be asked to prepare for the workshop and rehearsals arias assigned by the organizers, and these need not be arias that were prepared by candidates for their application recordings; all qualified singers shall make up the Festival Choir, - all instrumentalists who have qualified for the workshops make up the Festival Orchestra; in the case that a large number of applications be accepted, organizers shall assign selected fragments for individual instrumentalists. 4. Terms of passive participation in the workshops: - we provide access to: all festival concerts (tickets available for purchase), open rehearsals, lectures and meetings with artists within Handel Academy (entrance tickets shall be available to passive participants up to one hour before each concert). Before the workshops, all participants shall receive ids enabling them to access Academy events and to buy tickets at lower prices, - passive participants take part in workshops as listeners, 4 / 5
- applications shall be made by sending the filled-in form (available on www.nfm.wroclaw.pl/specjalne/akademia-haendlowska to the following e-mail address: akademiahaendlowska@nfm.wroclaw.pl by 25 January 2015, - the number of seats available to passive participants is limited. 5. Workshop participants cover the cost of their accommodation and travel to and from Wroclaw. 6. The entrance fee for participation in workshops shall not be returned. 7. Workshop participants give their permission for photo/audio and/or video recording (including the use of their image0 for the internal/archival purposes of NFM and the Academy of Music and for the use by the organizers of fragments of recorded materials for promotional purposes in the fields of exploitation indicated in the Act on Copyright and Neighbouring Rights. The use of materials for promotional purposes shall also be construed as allowing press/photographers not employed by NFM or Academy of Music to record the event and to use the above mentioned materials in particular for announcing the event on TV, in the press, on Internet portals etc. 8. By sending their participation form, participants agree to their personal data being processed: I agree to the processing of my personal data by the organizers of Handel Academy, ie the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław and the National Forum of Music, in accordance with the regulations of Act of 29 August 1997 on Personal Data Protection (Journal of Laws from 2002 No. 101, item 926 as amended), as required for my participation in Handel Academy and I confirm I have been informed that: 1) the administrators of the personal data included in this participation form are the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, head-office: Pl. Jana Pawła II nr 2, 50-043 Wrocław, and the National Form of Music, head-office: ul. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 19, 50-044 Wrocław, 2) the personal data mentioned above shall be processed for the purposes of organizing Handel Academy and shall not be disclosed to third parties, 3) I have the right to access the above mentioned personal data and to amend them, 4) the submission of my data is voluntary, however my denial to submit them makes my application for Handel Academy ineffective. 9. The organizers reserve the right to change these terms and conditions and to cancel the Handel Academy in whole or in parts for important reasons. 5 / 5
