Troubleshooting PrintJet problems is best handled in two easy steps: first diagnose the problem, then apply likely solutions until the problem is fixed. The information that you need to diagnose the most common problems is provided by the Status Monitor utility. Mats are not drawn in or transported Make sure that the mat is pushed up to the stop and the in feed path has been correctly inserted. Mats are not delivered correctly Make sure that the delivery path has been fitted correctly. The Statusmonitor caused an error message Maintenance of PrintJet Cleaning the Print Head Using the Head Cleaning utility If you find that the printed image is unexpectedly faint or dots in the printed image are missing, you may be able to solve these problems by cleaning the print head, which ensures that the nozzles are delivering ink properly. You can clean the print head from your computer using the Head Cleaning utility in the PrintJet software, or from the PrintJet itself by using the PrintJet's control panel buttons. Please press the Maintance Button. Note : Print head cleaning uses both color and black ink. To avoid wasting ink, clean the print head only if print quality declines; for example, if the printout is blurry or the color is incorrect or missing. When the error light is flashing or on, you cannot clean the print head. Replace the appropriate ink cartridge first. Do not start the Head Cleaning while printing is in progress; otherwise, your printout may be marred. Using the Head Cleaning utility Refer to the appropriate section below to use the Head Cleaning utility. For Windows users Follow the steps below to clean the print head using the Head Cleaning utility. Make sure that the PrintJet is on and the error light is off. Note : If the error light is flashing, you cannot clean the print head. Replace the appropriate ink cartridge first. Access the PrintJet software. For instructions, see Accessing the PrintJet software. Click the Utility tab, then click the Head Cleaning button. 5/21

Follow the on-screen instructions. The power light flashes while the PrintJet performs the cleaning cycle. It takes about thirty seconds to complete. Caution : Never turn off the PrintJet while the power light is flashing. Doing so may damage the PrintJet. When the power light stops flashing, click Print nozzle check pattern in the Head Cleaning dialog box to confirm that the head is clean and to reset the cleaning cycle. Checking the Print Head Nozzles If you find that the printed image is unexpectedly faint or dots in the printed image are missing, you may be able to identify the problem by checking the print head nozzles. : Caution It is necessary to switch off the PrintJet and stick on a label at the beginning of the MultiCard. You can check the print head nozzles from your computer using the Nozzle Check utility in the PrintJet software, or from the PrintJet itself by using the PrintJet's control panel buttons. Using the Nozzle Check utility Refer to the appropriate section below to use the Nozzle Check utility. Note : Do not use the Nozzle Check utility while printing is in progress; otherwise, your printout may be marred. For Windows users FollowthestepsbelowtousetheNozzleCheckutility. Make sure that the PrintJet is switched off and the MultiCard with the label is loaded in the Feed-in Rail. Access the PrintJet software. If you need instructions, see Accessing the PrintJet software. Click the Utility tab, then click the Nozzle Check button. Follow the on-screen instructions. Below are nozzle check patterns: Good sample 6/21

Print head needs to be cleaned In the check pattern, if you find that any segments are missing from the test lines, you may need to repeat the head cleaning and print the nozzle check pattern again. If print quality hasn't improved after repeating this procedure four or five times, turn the PrintJet off and leave it alone overnight. Then do the head cleaning again. If the print quality still has not improved, one or both of your ink cartridges may be old or damaged and may need to be replaced. To replace an ink cartridge before it is empty, see Replacing an Ink Cartridge. If print quality remains a problem after replacing the ink cartridges, contact your dealer. When must the printing head be cleaned? The printing head is to be cleaned when the printout becomes noticeably poorer, weak or unclear, for example. Please note that ink is used up when cleaning the printing head! When are the heaters to be renewed? The heaters must be renewed when it is no longer possible to fix correctly. Must the unit be serviced at specific intervals? No, servicing and maintenance is generally not necessary unless there is a fault in the hardware. How long does an ink cartridge last? As a general rule approx 350 mats can be printed with one ink cartridge. However, to be observed in this case is that ink is used up during every cleaning operation as a result of which the number of printable mats is reduced. Questions and Answers How resistant is the ink? / Is the print image resistant to ultra violet? In our laboratory we test specific stipulations such as wipe and scratch resistance, for example. However, we recommend that our customers check the printout according to individual requirements and approve these themselves. How many mats can I print with one tank filling? Up to approx. 350 mats can be printed, however, this depends on the extent of the printing. CanIusestillusemyPrintJetifmycolourcartridgeisempty Has cleaning the printing head any influence on the number of printable mats? Yes, because ink is used up during every cleaning cycle. The printing head is only to be cleaned when the print becomes noticeably poor. By carrying out a test we have determined that 28 cleaning cycles are necessary to empty the ink cartridge. Can half mats or segments be printed? You can print half a Multicard or segments on a card if you separate these correctly on the project drawing area. After lettering the card a fault message "MulitCard blockage" will appear and the red 19 /21

LED comes on. Confirm this message to be able to use the PrintJet again. Is there a hotline which I can call up in the case of problems? Yes, you can call up the PrintJet hotline under the number»0049«(0) 5231/141514. As an alternative you can also send an e-mail to PrintJet@weidmueller.de. How often can one mat run through the PrintJet? A mat should only run once through the PrintJet because the Multicard bends under the influence of heat from the marker. As a consequence, the print can become poorer in the next printing operation. Can one work with inlays? Atthepresentpointintimeweareworkingonsolutionstothisproblemtobealsoabletoofferinlays in the future. Is there a magazine? Yes, the article number of the magazine is What type of ink is used by PrintJet? Is this a standard ink? No, a specially produced ink is used for the Weidmüller ink cartridge (black) to ensure the necessary fixing of the print image. Is it possible that the marker may become brittle as a result of fixing and fractured when fastening? No, this is not possible. Can I use still use my EPSON Stylus printer if my colour cartridge is empty? No you cannot. EPSON Stylus printers require both Black and colour cartridges to be installed. If either of the cartridges is empty or not installed there will be a Red error light on the printer to indicate this. When there is a red light on the printer it will not function. Please note: When trying to print to an EPSON printer with an empty or uninstalled cartridge it will cause a Communication error on your computer. To resolve this error simply install or replace the required cartridge. Labelling V0 Markers 1. Please use Plotterfont at V0-material 2. Use the setting 60% of the fixing.
