The Copernicus Marine Environment and Monitoring Service today An online service of oceanographic products Generic numerical products (files) Geographical domains: global ocean and the European basins (Arctic, Baltic, North Western European shelf, Ireland Biscay and Iberia shelves, Mediterranean sea and Black sea) Large span of products from observations (in situ and satellite) to modelling Physical (including ice in the high latitudes) and biogeochemical variables Long time series (20 years), real time products & forecast for modelling products 3

The Copernicus Marine Environment and Monitoring Service today A service that targets intermediate users Main target professional people Who need the Copernicus Marine service for their scientific, commercial, decision making activities These intermediate users may have their own users (intermediate, end users) An open and free service To anybody And for any application as soon as the user agrees to abide by the CMEMS licence 4

The Copernicus Marine Environment and Monitoring Service today A user driven service Spontaneous user requests and feedback arriving to the service desk or listened during meetings Satisfaction questionnaires sent each year Face to face user workshops Pan European, organised each year during MyOcean Regional within CMEMS, 2-3 per year All requests & feedback recorded and analysed 10

User requirements (User Requirement Document) main user requirements PRODUCTS & CATALOGUE To have additional products: oceanographic ones (waves, tides) Cliquez et modifiez le titre non-oceanographic ones but useful for ocean studies (as river fluxes, atmospheric fluxes, bathymetry) To have product time series longer than 20 years To increase spatial and temporal resolution of products To enhance and harmonise the products and the catalogue by having consistency between products, by improving the product formats WEB FUNCTIONALITIES & ACCESS To enhance the web portal functionalities by improving the catalogue search, by ensuring that a given information is the same in different places by increasing the Inspire functionalities To ease the download of large volume of products

User requirements (User Requirement Document) main user requirements INFORMATION-DOCUMENTATION Cliquez et modifiez le titre To produce KPI of availability and timeliness To ease the choice of and access to products to nonexperienced users To provide information on the products: production line, scientific quality, their interest relative to each other, for both scientific users and nonscientific ones To have update of product equal or greater than 2 years and a road map of future service planned INTERFACE WITH USERS To maintain and enhance the link with users To define and build the interface with the coastal community To support members states for MSFD

User requirements (User Requirement Document) 2 main categories: Cliquez et modifiez le titre Expressed by users. Extension of the current service (planned in the evolution of CMEMS service) short run: by means of a proven process for continual improvement of the service medium and long-term perspective: by means of an extensive R&D programme Expressed by people wanting to use the service, but that have not yet taken the plunge because CMEMS offer is not suitable for them because it only partially meets their needs

User Uptake objective The aim of the "User Uptake" programme is Cliquez et modifiez le titre to secure the loyalty of current users to enable new communities to benefit from the Copernicus Marine service

Consideration of user requirements Requirements to be answered by the User Uptake: Cliquez et modifiez le titre coastal services (the question is: what does the CMEMS offer for this specific purpose and what are its limits for this field of application?) support to Member States to comply with the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) an easy access to products more verification and validation of products compatibility between all of the current products in the catalogue and those to come
