What s covered and is it for me? A range of basic accounting practices and techniques, from costing and double-entry bookkeeping to computerised accounting. Perfect if: You re new to finance or you re looking to brush up on your foundation knowledge and skills. What will I learn? 1. Processing Bookkeeping Transactions = Understand the principles of processing financial transactions = Understand the double entry bookkeeping system = Understand discounts = Prepare and process financial documentation for customers = Process supplier invoices and credit notes and calculate payments = Maintain the cash book and petty cash records = Process ledger transactions and extract a trial balance 2. Control Accounts, Journals and the Banking System = Understand the purpose and use of control accounts and journals = Maintain and use control accounts and journals = Reconcile a bank statement with the cash book = Understand the banking process = Understand retention and storage requirements relating to banking documents 3. Working effectively in Accounting and Finance = Understanding the accounting or payroll function in an organisation = Be able to use a range of communication skills = Work independently or as part of a team = Develop skills and knowledge to meet personal and organisational needs = Understand ethical values and principles and sustainable values
4. Basic Costing = Understand the cost recording system within an organisation = Be able to use the cost recording system to record or extract data = Be able to use spreadsheets to provide information on actual and budgeted income and expenditure 5. Computerised Accounting (Sage) = Use a computerised accounting system to enter accounting transactions, perform a reconciliation, correct errors and produce a range of reports = Maintain the security of accounting information using passwords and backup routines Assessments: You will sit a computer based assessment for each of the 5 subjects listed above. Some students may feel that they have suitable experience to start at Level 3. We require all students to complete a minimum of the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping before they commence Level 3.
