Instructions for Dual Enrollment students completing the JTCC online application Getting Started: Open your web browser and type in the following web address: https://apply.vccs.edu 1. Click on the blue button that says: NEW USERS 2. Enter your first name, last name (be sure to enter your full legal name, no nicknames), email address is optional. 3. Create a Username and Password using the guidelines noted below. 4. Click: Submit Note the following: The login ID and password is only valid during the application process. You will be given a username and password for registration after successfully completing the application process. Your temporary login ID will be retained until the application is submitted, or for a period 30 days. You may save your application and return at any time within that period. Finalize and submit your application within 30 days from the time you create your login ID, or you will have to start over. Your password must be 7-10 characters long and contain at least one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, and one number. Be sure to record your login ID and password. If they are lost, you will need to create a new account and begin another application. 1
5. Click: APPLY Apply for Admission To apply for admission, you'll complete a brief online form. You'll need to provide some basic information about yourself including contact information, educational history, and details about your residency. If you are unable to fully complete the form at this time, you may return to it at a later date. To begin, click 'Apply Now' below. Notice: In compliance with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry, a portion of this information will be submitted to the Virginia State Police. 6. Click: Apply Now 2
STEP 1 Personal Information NAME: Enter your full legal name do not use a nickname. Be sure to use Uppercase for the first letter of your first and last name, i.e. Jane Doe. SOCIAL SECURITY #: Although Social Security numbers are not required, it makes it easier to find your record later on, if you accidently enter incorrect information. FORMER NAME: Skip this entry, unless you have recently legally changed your name. DATE OF BIRTH: Select month and day from drop down menu, then type in your birth year in 4 digit format. WHICH COLLEGE DO YOU PLAN TO ATTEND: Select John Tyler Community College from menu IN WHAT TYPE OF CLASSES WILL YOU BE ENROLLING: Select CREDIT by clicking on the radio button next to the word credit. WHAT CAMPUS WILL YOU ATTEND: Select the campus that is closest to where you live. Dual enrollment students take classes AT the High School, but a campus must be selected. WHAT TERM DO YOU PLAN TO BEGIN CLASSES: Select 2010 FALL. HAVE YOU PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED, APPLIED FOR ADMISSION TO, OR BEEN EMPLOYED BY ANY VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Select NO, then click: SAVE & CONTINUE Please note: If you applied and enrolled in a previous Dual Enrollment course or an on campus class, you do NOT need to apply again. Just exit the program if you have previously applied. 4
STEP 2 Address Information PRIMARY PHONE NUMBER: Type in your home phone or cell number MAILING ADDRESS: Type in your mailing address. Be sure that United States is selected for country and Virginia is selected for state. CURRENT RESIDENCE: Select the COUNTY that you live in from the drop down menu. HAVE YOU LIVED IN VIRGINIA FOR THE LAST TWELVE MONTHS: Select YES, unless you have moved to Virginia within the past year. EMAIL ADDRESS: This is optional EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION: This is optional, but good to enter. Click: SAVE & CONTINUE to go to Step 3 5
STEP 3 Additional Personal Information ETHNICITY: Select your ethnicity. GENDER: Select your gender. U.S. CITIZENSHIP STATUS: Select NATIVE from the menu if you were born in the U.S. If you are NOT a U.S. citizen or were naturalized, please select the appropriate status from the menu. PRIMARY LANGUAGE: Select ENGLISH if you are a U.S. Citizen U.S. MILITARY STATUS: Select NO MILITARY SERVICE from drop down menu. Click: SAVE & CONTINUE to go to Step 4 6
STEP 4 Educational History HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: ALL DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS SHOULD SELECT HIGH SCHOOL (GRADUATED OR CURRENTLY ENROLLED) HIGH SCHOOL DETAILS: SELECT THE NAME OF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL FROM LIST ACTUAL OR ANTICIPATED GRADUATION DATE: BE SURE TO ENTER THE CORRECT DATE THAT YOU INTEND TO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL. Failure to enter the correct date may place you in a category that makes you ineligible to enroll in dual enrollment courses. DIPLOMA TYPE: Select the type of high school diploma that you will be awarded. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Enter appropriate information for parents if prompted to do so. Step 6 - In-State Tuition All Virginia residents and non-residents must complete the In-State Tuition Questionnaire. Click: Apply Please note, John Tyler does NOT charge tuition for dual enrollment classes taught AT THE HIGH SCHOOL; however ALL students are required to complete this section to determine residency status. You may need your parents assistance to answer some of these questions. 9

You have completed the in-state tuition questionnaire. At this point, you may cancel the questionnaire and go back to where you were in your admissions application, or save your answers and move forward. Once you have completed the online application you will have a chance to review your information and submit your application. Once you are satisfied that all questions were answered correctly, click on SUBMIT APPLICATION. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PRINT OUT A HARDCOPY OF YOUR APPLICATION SUMMARY AND SUBMIT A COPY TO YOUR HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR. You should also make note of your college (EMPL) identification number that is automatically generated at the completion of the application process. Your college I.D. number will be required for placement testing and enrollment. Additional information: IF YOU OR YOUR PARENT ARE NOT A U.S. CITIZEN: You will be required to bring a copy of the appropriate INS documentation to your HIGH SCHOOL counselor. IF YOU LIVE WITH A GUARDIAN: You will be required to bring a copy of your guardianship papers to your HIGH SCHOOL counselor. IF YOU ARE REQUIRED TO GO FOR PLACEMENT TESTING: You will be required to bring your college I.D. number, a test request memo (obtained from H.S. counselor) and $6 testing fee to the testing center on the day of your scheduled test. The cashier s office is closed on the weekend, so if you are testing on a Saturday, you will need to pay in advance and bring the paid receipt with you on the day of the test. It is highly recommended that all students go to the COMPASS online site and run through the math and English practice tests.
