1 Applying on the Web Worksheet admissions.psu.edu DO NOT MAIL THIS WORKSHEET TO PENN STATE Please use this worksheet to practice or prepare for completion of your online application to Penn State. Your portal to undergraduate admissions at Penn State is the website admissions.psu.edu. Note the following: We prefer that you use our web application. It is easy, secure, and minimizes common errors. For admission to summer and fall semesters (starting July 2016 and August 2016): Our recommended application dates are September 1 November 30. Submitting complete credentials (application, high school transcript, and SAT or ACT scores) by November 30 maximizes your chances of getting your first-choice campus, academic program, and semester of interest. For admission to spring semester (starting January 2016): Complete applications with all credentials (including high school transcript, application, and SAT or ACT scores) should be received by November 1. Click on the Academics section of our website to learn about the many academic options that Penn State offers. Have you visited Penn State lately? Visit programs are held at each of our 20 undergraduate campuses. When on our website, click on Visit to make arrangements. Completing your web application begins with the creation of your MyPennState profile. To begin, go to admissions.psu.edu and click on Apply, fill out the form, and click Submit. With the information you have shared, your MyPennState profile is filled with information that is relevant to you including specific campus highlights. This personalized portal page will be available to you from this point forward. We hope you visit us often, as information will be updated frequently for your needs. You will also receive a Friends of Penn State (FPS) User ID and password. This User ID and password will allow you to sign into your MyPennState profile. In the future, if you join us at Penn State, it will also be the User ID you use to check your , schedule classes, and use computers on campus. Should You Need To Step Away Should you need to step away from your application after starting, that s no problem. Simply click Save and Continue at the end of the page you are working on, close the application and, when you come back to it, you can pick it up from where you left off. To continue completing your web application, click on the last completed section on the status bar at the top of the page. The application status bar will keep you up-to-date with your progress as you work toward submitting your application. When links or boxes with question marks appear, you can click on them for additional information. Components of the Web Application Profile: Biographical Information: Asks you to provide contact information and information about your citizenship and ethnicity. Academics: Academic History: Asks you to provide information about your high school, high school coursework, and any collegiate coursework you ve completed. Program of Study: Campuses and Majors: Allows you to select your degree type, starting semester, major, and campus preferences. Additional Information: Covers other admissions and academic information that is useful in the review of your application, including your activities, personal statement, and Penn State alumni connections in your family. Review and Submit: Gives you a chance to review and make any corrections to your application prior to submitting it. After that, you can submit your application. A credit card (Visa or MasterCard) is required to submit the application fee. The application fee is $50 for domestic students and $65 for international students. Additional Items: For first-year applicants, in addition to the web application, the Undergraduate Admissions Office will also need your high school transcript and official SAT/ACT scores (if you graduated high school within the past four years) to make an admissions decision. Beginning Your Web Application To begin your web application, first open your MyPennState profile using your FPS User ID and password, then click on Apply Online from the menu on the right side of the screen. This opens your application. Next, click on the Begin Your Application button at the bottom of the screen.

5 BUILD YOUR PROGRAM OF STUDY CHOOSING YOUR MAJOR The application will walk you through three ways to select your major: Academic Interest Area: By organizing your choices this way, you will first select a general interest area, then select a specific Penn State major from the drop-down menu. After selecting your major and clicking save, you will see the description of the major and any relevant program notes. Alphabetical Listing: Academic programs will be sorted alphabetically. Using this organizational method, you will select an academic program from the alphabetical listing. Campus Location: Using this organizational option, you will see academic programs organized by the campus where the academic program is completed. The application will require you to select starting and ending campuses. You will have the option of choosing an alternate starting campus. Most of Penn State s academic programs may be started at one campus and completed at the campus where the academic degree is awarded. We call this the 2+2 plan, in which a student spends two years at one campus and then transitions to another campus for the final two years of study to complete a degree. You will be evaluated for each campus in the order you specify and, if you fulfill the entrance requirements for your first choice campus, you will be accepted there. Providing an alternate choice campus will expedite the admissions process should we not be able to make you an offer of admission to your first choice campus. View a complete listing of Penn State s majors at admissions.psu.edu/ academics/majors. Summer Session at University Park: If you select University Park as your starting campus, you also have the option to be considered for the six-week summer session, which begins the last week of June and ends in the second week of August. If you select this option, we will first evaluate your application for the fall semester. If we are unable to offer you admission for the fall, your application will be evaluated for the summer session. Students who start in the summer typically take two classes and automatically continue at University Park for the fall semester. Many incoming first-year students register for a special summer program called LEAP (Learning Edge Academic Program). You can learn more at leap. psu.edu. on your SHC application, you cannot submit the SHC application until you have submitted this application for undergraduate admission to Penn State. Indicate whether any of your immediate relatives are Penn State alumni: n Mother n Father n Sister/Brother n Grandparent n Spouse n Son/Daughter Have you ever been dismissed/suspended for disciplinary reasons from secondary school, Penn State, or any other institution? n Yes n No Have you ever been dropped for poor academic performance from Penn State or any other institution? n Yes n No Have you ever pleaded guilty or no contest, participated in a presentencing diversion program, and/or been convicted of a criminal offense, or are there criminal charges pending against you at this time? n Yes n No Please note that if you answer yes to any of these questions, you will need to provide additional documentation to the Undergraduate Admissions office. MILITARY SERVICE Have you ever served in the U.S. Military? n Yes n No ACTIVE DUTY Military Branch Entry Date Discharge Date Type of Discharge RESERVES Military Branch Entry Date STEP 4: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Discharge Date ADMISSIONS INFORMATION Have you previously completed an application for undergraduate admission to Penn State within the last two years? n Yes n No Students who would like to re-enroll at Penn State after they ve been away from their Penn State studies for four or more calendar years may be eligible for Academic Renewal. You can get more information about re-enrollment by contacting the Registrar at any Penn State campus. The program is open to students in all colleges and majors. Admission to the program is highly competitive. The application includes several essay questions, at least two letters of recommendation, and an additional application fee. If you choose yes for this question, a link to the SHC application will appear on your MyPennState profile page.
