Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was established by an Act of the Parliament as a Central University in 1998 with all-india jurisdiction. The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Common Wealth Universities. The mandate of the University, as per the Act, is to promote and develop the Urdu language, provide higher, technical and vocational education through Urdu medium and to provide focus on women education. The Act empowers the University to offer education through the distance and regular mode as well. Moreover, the University has made many strides within a span of 14 years of its establishment by launching newer courses both in regular and distance mode. In regular mode, the University has department of Urdu, Hindi, English, Persian, Arabic, Translation, Mathematics, Computer sciences & Information Technology, Education & Training, Mass Communication & Journalism, Commerce & Business Management, Women Studies, Political Science and Public Administration & the Department of Sociology and Social Work. Further, the University has one Directorate (Directorate of Distance Education), and four Centres such as the Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers (CPDUMT), Centre for Women Studies, Centre for Studies in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policty (CSSEIP) and the Centre for Urdu Language, Literature and Culture (CULLC), H.K.Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, besides the Academic Staff College, Maulana Azad Chair, Polytechnics and I.T.Is. Apart from this, the University has facilities of imparting coaching for I.A.S aspirants through Civil Services Coaching Academy and the University also provides coaching facility for UGC NET/JRF apart from Remedial classes & APPSC Coaching. On the basis of these achievements NAAC has awarded A grade to the University. About Directorate of Distance Education The University has initiated its distance education programmes from its year of establishment through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) by offering B.A. in Urdu medium. All the courses of DDE are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. The DDE has set up 09 Regional Centres (Delhi, Patna, Bangalore, Bhopal, Darbhanga, Srinagar, Kolkatta, Mumbai & Ranchi) and 07 Sub-Regional Centres (Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jammu, Nuh, Amravati, Sambhal & Chandni Chowk) across the country so as to provide academic and administrative support to the students.

The Regional Centres and Sub-Regional Centres take care of student support services; management of study centres and admission process. At present there are 161 study centres within the purview of these RCs/SRCs. Besides this, the University has signed MoUs with Doordarshan for imparting lessons to the students through audio visual media. Further, the DDE is endeavoring to achieve its goal of providing online admission facility; simple process of admission to facilitate the students and providing audio-visual material to the students alongwith the Self Learning Material. Moreover, the distance education programmes are popular with a large number of students from across the Country and abroad. In coordination with the Council General of India, the University has started its examination centre at Jedda (K.S.A) in 2006. The graduation and post-graduation and diploma certificates awarded by the University are at par with the certificates of other central Universities. Day-by-Day the strength of the student is growing and students on roll as on date, are 1,57,000. Thus, the DDE is striving hard to reach the un-reached. According to a recent survey, the University s distance education programmes are ranked at 6 th place in the merit list of top 30 national level institutions in the Country. About IDEA The Open Forum for Distance Education Indian Distance Education Association (IDEA) is a registered professional body consisting of Open Learning and Distance Education Professionals in India. It has a large individual and institutional/corporate membership. One of the main objectives of IDEA is to help promote distance education by strengthening distance teaching systems, initiating sharing, networking and contribute for the professional growth of all those personnel involved in the process and continue their commitment to the fastest growing form of education in the world today. To meet this objective, IDEA has so far organized Seventeen National Conferences on a variety of themes. This 18 th Annual Conference of IDEA aims to serve as a useful forum, which will pave the way of both educators and administrators of distance and open learning institutions to widen the educational opportunities and to meet the varied needs of the people of their region in particular and the people of the country in general and face the challenges of ongoing market expansions and competition in the field.

You are cordially invited to actively participate in the 18 th Annual Conference on Open and Distance Learning and to submit abstracts and proposals that address the issues of the Conference. Contributions are welcome from interested individuals and organizations covering various fields of Open and Distance Learning concerning the main theme and sub-themes in various formats, such as: Theoretical papers Research papers Talks Audio, video, Internet demonstrations Empirical and case studies Poster presentations Papers and presentations should be of high quality, original and specially prepared for the 18 th Annual Conference. The Conference will encompass all aspects of Open and Distance Learning with a particular focus on nature and scope of future development. xi) xii) xiii) Development funds Language barriers in ODL Women in ODL Types of Events and Presentations: The 18 th IDEA Annual Conference on Open and Distance Learning will comprise different types of sessions and presentations. Plenary Sessions The Opening Ceremony Inaugural Addresses One Plenary Session for each of the three days with one or two keynote speakers in each session The Closing Session Parallel Sessions Two or three parallel sessions, with 4 or more paper presentations each or a panel discussion or demonstration relating to the sub-themes Poster sessions Best practices Linked to the different parallel sessions and presenting additional papers, projects and case studies and demonstrations in the respective field. In addition to the above events IDEA will allow for some Extension Events of different types. These Extension Events will be organized independently and the responsibility rests with the Individuals, Institutions, Associations, Corporate bodies etc. concerned. Guidelines for Submission of Abstracts and Full-length papers: 1. Abstracts should clearly describe the intended presentation. 2. Abstracts should not contain more than 500 words (No tables, charts or graphs) + title and authors name & address including email should be clearly mentioned. 3. Submission of abstracts by email is most appreciable. 4. The abstracts and all accompanying information should be sent as a single attachment.

5. All abstracts/full papers should be addressed to the Academic Convener, IDEA-2013 Conference on email id 6. Full length papers should not exceed more than 3000 words. 7. Both hard and soft copies of the abstract and full length paper should be submitted. 8. Please use only the following format for submission of full length papers: English: MS-Word which could be open in any version 1997-2003, 2007 (Font type: Times New Roman, Font size: 12 in double space on A4 size paper) Urdu: Inpage 2.4 (Font size 14 for normal text, Font noori nastaliq with auto spacing on A4 size paper) 9. Submission in PDF, image format etc. will not be accepted. 10. All submitted abstracts will be referred to the Conference Academic Committee and attributed to the different types of events and presentation at the IDEA conference. 11. Both hard and soft copies of the abstracts and full-length paper should be submitted. 12. Interested scholars are invited to submit papers based on theoretical models, comparative studies of cross institutional and cross cultural nature related to the main theme and sub-themes of the conference, empirical researchers and case-studies will receive priority over other descriptive studies. 13. If you are arriving by air, disembarkation would be at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, Hyderabad. For those choosing to travel by train, Hyderabad s three main railway terminals: Nampally, Secunderabad and Kachiguda connect it to rest of the country. Long distance buses depart from Hyderabad: Imblibun Bus Station and Jubilee Bus Station. To reach Conference venue, one has to engage pre-paid taxi/auto which is within the vicinity of around 25km to 30km. Average fare for taxi and auto would be Rs.10-12/km and Rs.08-10/km respectively. Hyderabad at a Glance Royal, rustic, romantic are just a few terms to describe Hyderabad, which was founded by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in 1589. The city was ruled by Kaktiyas, Baahamanis, Mughals and Nizams and presently this is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. This is a city of oriental glory, reminiscent of the great days of the Indo-Muslim culture. This city has glorious literary culture and was one of the important places for growth of languages like Telugu, Persian, Urdu especially one of the important places for the growth of Deccani culture. It has reputed institutions and universities established by central and state governments including the famous universities like Osmania University, Hyderabad Central University, The English & Foreign Languages University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, International Institute of Information Technology, Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University and Telugu University. Some of the site seeing places are Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Laad Bazar, Seven Tombs, Golconda Fort, Lumbini Park, Hussain Sagar, NTR Park, Salarjung Museum, Chowmahal Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Ramoji Film City, Ocean Park, Birla temple, Birla Planetorium, Hi Tech city, Shilparamam, Nehru Zoological Park. For more than a decade, the winds of change have been blowing hard on this bit of the Deccan Plateau, breathing life into an old city. Now, Hyderabad houses IT companies,

MNCs and BPOs; it is a powerhouse for the pharmaceutical industry. It s seen the steady rise of Tollywood, world-class educational institutions, an excellent airport and a stream of luxury hotels and designer labels.
