POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (PGCE) Main Fields of Study: Design & Technology English (iii) French (iv) Home Economics (Design & Textiles, Food Studies) (v) (vii) (ix) Social Sciences (History, Geography, Sociology) Science with Physics or Chemistry or Biology Physical Education (vi) Visual Arts (viii) Computer Education Asian/ Arabic/ Islamic Languages: (x) Asian Language (Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu)* (xi) Arabic *In collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute 5 Credits at SC/GCE O level including English Language; 2 A Levels with at least one of them being relevant to the Main Field of Study applied for; or acceptable alternative qualifications; A degree relevant to the Main Field of Study offered 1

2 Duration of Course One-and-a-half years (3 Semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs7,500/- per semester, payable at the beginning of each semester (excluding Library and Union fees). 2. TEACHER S DIPLOMA SECONDARY Main Fields of Study: Business Education (With specialisation in Accounting and Economics) Design & Technology (iii) (v) Business Education (With specialisation in Business Studies and Travel & Tourism) Home Economics (Design and Textiles, Food Studies) (iv) (vi) Mathematics Social Sciences (History, Geography, Sociology) (vii) French (viii) Computer Education (ix) Science with Physics or Chemistry or Biology (x) Physical Education Note: 5 Credits at SC/GCE '0' level including English Language; and 2 A levels with at least one of them being relevant (except for Physical Education) to the course applied for or acceptable alternative qualifications. For Physical Education, any 2 A levels will be acceptable. Candidates applying for the Teacher s Diploma Secondary (Full-Time) programme are required to have at least a grade C at A Level in their respective field of study applied for. Duration of Course: Two Years (4 semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 12,500/- is payable at the beginning of each year 2

3 PART-TIME PROGRAMMES: 1. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT (PGDEM) (For Deputy Rectors, Acting Rectors and Rectors/ Principals of Secondary Schools) Minimum Admission Requirement: Potential candidates should be practising in any of the above-mentioned positions. Duration of Course: Two Years (4 semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 30,000/- for the whole course payable in two equal instalments at the beginning of each academic year (excluding Library and Union fees). 2. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT (For Practising Secondary Educators) A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Or A first degree and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) A minimum of five years post-degree experience as Educator. Duration of Course: Two Years (4 Semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 30,000/- for the whole course payable in two equal instalments at the beginning of each academic year (excluding Library and Union fees). 3. DIPLOMA, SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS (For Educators practising in Special Education Needs Schools) Minimum Admission Requirement: Educators holding a Certificate in Special Education from the MIE Or Educators holding 2 A Levels, with at least two years of experience in a Special Education Needs (SEN) school. Duration of Course: Three Years (6 semesters) 3

4 Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 2000/- is payable at the beginning of each year 4. DIPLOMA IN EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISION AND INSPECTION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (For supervisory cadre practicing in the Early Childhood Education sector) A Teacher s Certificate Pre-Primary A Certificate in Preschool Teacher Education and Supervision Duration of course: 2 years (4 semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 2000 is payable at the beginning of each year (excluding library and union fees) 5. TEACHER S DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (For practising Pre-Primary Educators) (iii) Five passes at SC/GCE O level including English Language; A Certificate of Proficiency in Early Childhood Education (CPECE) and Teacher s Certificate Pre-Primary (TCPP); and At least 4 years post TCPP teaching experience. or (iii) Five Credits at SC/GCE O level including English Language; A Teacher s Certificate Pre-Primary (TCPP); and At least 4 years post TCPP teaching experience. Duration of Course: 2 Years (4 semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 2000/- is payable at the beginning of each year 4

CERTIFICATE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION (Applicants should be Educators or support personnel working in specialised schools in Rodrigues) Five passes at SC/GCE O level including English Language or acceptable alternative qualifications/ relevant experience. Duration of Course: 2 Years (4 semesters) Registration Fee: A fee of Rs 1000/- is payable at the beginning of each year 7. CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (For Managers of Pre-Primary Schools in Mauritius) Teacher s Certificate Pre-Primary/ Teacher s Certificate in Early Childhood Education/ Early Childhood Education Teacher s Certificate Candidates should be Managers registered with the Early Childhood Care and Education Authority (ECCEA) Duration of Course: One-and-a-half Years (3 semesters) Registration Fee: A total fee of Rs 1,500/- is payable at the time of registration. NON-AWARD COURSE 1. FOUNDATION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION Entry Requirement: Applicants should be Educators, support personnel or cadres working in specialised schools. Duration of Course: 45 hours over 1 year (during primary school term holidays) Registration Fee: A total fee of Rs 500/- is payable at the time of registration. 5

A School Certificate pass in English Language together with a credit in English Literature or a Higher School Certificate pass in General Paper may be considered as an acceptable alternative to a School Certificate credit in English Language. Qualifications obtained after the closing date will not be considered. Teacher s Diploma Secondary is a pre-requisite for candidates willing to pursue further studies, particularly for a Bachelor of Education programme. Rodriguan candidates applying for the Teacher s Diploma Secondary (Full-Time) programme are required to make their own arrangements for accommodation in Mauritius to be able to follow the programme. Though Full-Time courses are normally run from hrs to hrs, students may exceptionally be required to follow courses from hrs to hrs during weekdays and on Saturday afternoons. The best qualified candidates will be selected for Full-Time courses. Seniority will be the determining criterion for in-service courses. As such, Educators have to prove their experience through testimonial(s) and confirm that they are currently working. Pre-Primary School Managers are also required to provide evidence of their registration with the Early Childhood Care and Education Authority (ECCEA). The Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management, and Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management programmes will be accredited for future access to a Master s programme. Courses will be run subject to satisfactory response in the respective fields of study/ programmes. Candidates are required to follow only one course at a time at the MIE. Only successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications. The MIE reserves the right not to run any of the above-mentioned courses nor will it assign any reason thereof. Applications must be made online through the MIE website: Once the application is completed, an Online Declaration Form has to be printed and signed while accepting the Terms and Conditions stipulated for the programme, which should reach the Office of the Registrar, MIE, Réduit, by Monday 20 June 2016 at 3.00 pm at latest. Applicants who do not have Internet facilities or are unable to apply online should call in person at the MIE, 1 st Floor, Teacher Education Section, during weekdays between to noon and to Facilities will be provided against payment of a nominal fee of Rs 200/- per application. 6
