What is the Rising Scholars Program? Keiser University s Rising Scholars Program An Opportunity for Broward County High School Students Keiser University s Rising Scholars Fort Lauderdale Campus is a pre-college program designed for students in good academic standing who demonstrate the maturity and selfdiscipline to handle college-level course work. This program is an opportunity for students to earn college credit and acquire skills necessary to remain successful in college. The Rising Scholars Program focuses on the following components: College Readiness, Career Preparation, and Leadership. How do I Qualify for the Program? Applications for the program are available starting January 6 th, 2015 both on campus and at surrounding Broward County School BRACE / Guidance Offices. To qualify as for the Rising Scholars Program students must be in the graduating classes of 2015 or 2016. Students must schedule an interview with a High School Admissions Counselor and bring the following: 1) completed application for Rising Scholars, 2) a letter of recommendation from a School Official, 3) an unofficial high school transcript with a minimum 2.5+ GPA, 4) a copy of their standardized test scores or take the on-campus Wonderlic Assessment. All documents are due at the interview and should not be mailed/e-mail in. It is the student s responsibility to contact the High School Admissions Office when all application materials are retrieved. How much does it cost? All tuition, fee, and registration costs are covered by Keiser University. Students will be able to take one (1) course during the summer program. Students are only responsible for purchasing their own textbooks.
Program Overview Students that are selected for participation in this program will be awarded a scholarship for one (1) academic course through the Rising Scholars Program. Tuition and fees are covered by Keiser University. Students will bear no financial obligation to the university, but are responsible for the cost of textbooks. The program offers up to four (4) credits of college-level instruction taught by Keiser University faculty as well as professional development seminars from the University Writing Studio and Student Services. Students will be able to submit their collegiate transcripts to their high school guidance counselor for high school elective credit consideration. Upon completion of classes, an official Keiser University transcript will be released to the student documenting coursework and grades/credits earned. The first official transcript will be at no cost to the student. In addition to academic coursework, students will learn about interview skills, resume building, college level writing, the college experience, and the college financial aid / admissions process. The Rising Scholars Program will serve as a model for providing opportunity to college bound or college seeking youth in Broward County by linking collegiate resources with urban school systems to improve post-secondary educational fulfillment. Seats for the Rising Scholars Program are limited; it is imperative for students to apply early. Students are required to adhere to Keiser University s Code of Conduct and Professionalism Policies. Eligible students may enroll in a course based on availability and academic eligibility criteria. o Students that elect to enroll in a college level English or Math course will be required to take a Basic English & Math Test for placement o Students eligible for core dual enrollment courses must meet District and State academic requirements o Students not meeting District & State dual enrollment requirements for core courses will be able to take district approved elective courses

Program Application Checklist 1) Proof of Eligibility (1/6 4/17) Complete Application for Rising Scholars Program The application is included in this packet. Make sure all information is legible and contact information is ideal for communication both before and during the program. Unofficial / Official Transcript Provide transcripts showing a minimum weighted cumulative GPA of 2.5. Unofficial / Official Test Score Must meet the minimum requirement for one (1) of the tests listed below: o ACT: 16 o SAT: 1170 o ASVAB: 31 o Wonderlic: 13 Test can be taken at Keiser University on day of interview Letter of Recommendation Must be from a Broward County School administrator, faculty or staff member 2) Interview (1/29 4/17) Schedule an Interview Date After retrieving all Proof of Eligibility documents, please contact Keiser University High School Admissions to schedule a Rising Scholars interview at (954) 776-4456. o Admissions Counselors will be available to conduct interviews between January 30 th April 17 th o Please indicate the best date and time to interview for the program Bring all Proof of Eligibility documents and a parent/guardian to your interview All documents will be collected on the interview date. Complete Basic English / Basic Math Test Due to the rigor of college level courses, students will take a Basic Math/English test to determine course placements 3) Acceptance (4/24 5/1) Students will be notified via telephone and mail of their acceptance beginning on April 24 th, 2015. Selected applicants will have until May 4 th to confirm participation in the Rising Scholars Program or forfeit their acceptance.
