YOUR ROUTE TO UNDERGRADUATE SUCCESS International Foundation Year

The University of Southampton s International Foundation Year gives you the skills needed to start your chosen undergraduate degree. The International Foundation Year (IFY) is for talented students from outside the UK who have had at least 11 or 12 years of full-time education, but who do not have the appropriate qualifications for direct entry to an undergraduate degree programme in a British university. The IFY programme provides a direct route for students onto a variety of undergraduate degree programmes, from Accounting and Finance to Music and Law. At the end of the IFY programme, you will automatically progress to your chosen degree, provided you achieve the required grades. As an IFY student you will taught by University tutors and lecturers and have access to all of the many benefits the University s students receive. IFY students are eligible for a four year visa to study in the UK. Successful completion of the IFY programme guarantees that you can progress to your undergraduate degree without applying for a new visa.

You will also spend at least 15 hours a week studying independently with the guidance of your tutors and personal academic advisor. HOW TO APPLY You can apply for the IFY through one of the University s approved representatives or independently via; the application form downloaded from our web pages www.southampton.ac.uk/foundationyears the UCAS website www.ucas.com/apply (using course code LMV0) You will need to provide the following: your High School Graduation Certificate your High School Transcripts (translated into English) or proof of academic qualifications for the past three years an academic reference your personal statement your IELTS Certificate or other official evidence of your English language level All applications should be submitted by 1st August. High School Grades Detailed information about the high school grades you need to join the IFY can be found on our website: www.southampton.ac.uk/foundationyears Please note, there are specific maths requirements for degree programmes that include Management, Accounting and Economics. In addition, applicants for Law need outstanding school grades. Pre Sessional Course for Foundation Year This summer course is for students who need to improve their English language level to meet the entry requirements for a foundation programme. The minimum entry requirement for the pre-sessional course is IELTS 5.0 in all four skills. Accommodation International students who apply for accommodation before 1st August are guaranteed accommodation in the University s modern halls of residence*. More information about University accommodation is available on the University s webpages: www.southampton.ac.uk/accommodation English Language Level You will need a minimum level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent with at least 5.5 in each component to join the IFY. If you have an IELTS score of at least 5.0 in each component or approved equivalent but need more English language tuition to reach the entry requirement for the IFY, you may apply for a place on our summer pre sessional course. *subject to criteria
