group Body model 2008MY Sportage [KM] SUBJECT: NUMBER DATE 068 July 2010 Technical Service Bulletin Kia Motors Logo 4/C - Medium REPLACEMENT (sa 040) This bulletin provides information relating to some Sportage (KM) vehicles built from June 12, 2007 to December 27, 2007. Sun visors on some Sportage (KM) vehicles may hang down due to loose fitting sun visor pivot arms. To correct this condition, replace both right and left sun visor pivot arms with new improved assemblies. To improve customer satisfaction, Kia is requesting the completion of this Service Action on all affected 2008MY Sportage (KM) vehicles. For vehicles not on Affected Vehicles List, but with a customer concern; perform the following procedure outlined in this bulletin and submit a warranty claim per customer concern (Standard TSB) claim information on page 5. Installing new sun visor pivot arm assembly. A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the warranty period. Any dealer request to perform this repair outside the warranty period will require DPSM approval. Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service>Warranty Coverage> Warranty Coverage Inquiry>Campaign Information). Not Completed Recall/Service Action reports are available on WebDCS (Consumer Affairs>Not Completed Recall Recall VIN>Select Report). The issue number is SA040. Page 2 of 5 subject: Service Procedure: 1. Remove the sun visor pivot arm mounting screw cover as indicated by arrow. 2. Remove the two (2) sun visor pivot arm mounting screws as indicated by arrows. 3. Rotate the pivot arm holder until it is placed perpendicular to the sun visor as shown in the photo. The contact surface of the holder must face upwards. Sun visor with protective plastic cover that is shown in the photo is for demonstrative purposes. This Service Procedure is for replacing sun visor pivot arms only, and not the sun visor.
subject: Page 3 of 5 4. Fully extend the pivot arm as shown in the photo. 5. Rotate the pivot arm holder by 90 degrees in the opposite direction of the vanity mirror and then completely pull the pivot arm out of the sun visor. 6. Insert new pivot arm assembly into the sun visor pivot arm hole, and then rotate the pivot arm holder until it is positioned perpendicular to the sun visor. Left and right-side replacement Sun visor pivot arms come in one package under a single part number.
Page 4 of 5 subject: 7. Push the pivot arm all the way into the hole until it clicks into place. 8. Check that the pivot arm is completely inserted by rotating the pivot arm holder. If you can feel moderate resistance, the installation is correct. 9. Reinstall the sun visor assembly in the reverse order of removal. 10. Repeat the above procedure on the opposite side.
