Troubleshooting Business Analyst Installation and Startup Contents Installation Issues..Pg 1 Licensing Issues...Pg 6 Crystal Report Issues...Pg 9 Documentation Issue.. Pg 13 Installation Issues I 1. Question: Where can I find installation instructions? Answer: A paper copy of the Business Analyst Quick Start Guide is included with the Business Analyst installation DVDs. Alternatively, the installation instructions can be found on DVD #1 in the root directory in a file named Install_BA.html. After installation, they can be found at C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\Documentation\install_guides\Install_BA.html I 2. Question: Where do I find system requirements for Business Analyst? Answer: Business Analyst system requirements can be found in the Business Analyst Installation Guide. The installation guide can be launched at the very beginning of the Business Analyst installation by clicking the Install Guide button. I 3. Question: Can I install Business Analyst on the Microsoft Vista operating system? Answer: ArcGIS 9.3 fully supports the Windows Vista operating system. Make sure you have administrative privileges to install Business Analyst. Administrative privileges are not required to run Business Analyst but only to install it. More information about supported operating systems can be found here: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techarticles.articleshow&d=34020 A Microsoft update may be required on your machine to access certain ArcGIS and Business Analyst help content on Vista machines. More information can be found here: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techarticles.articleshow&d=32530 1

I 4. Question: I receive a This program might not have installed correctly message when closing the Business Analyst guided installation (setup.exe on DVD #1). Answer: This issue appears only on Vista operating systems on some machines with user account control (UAC) enabled. Click the link The program installed correctly to close this dialog. No action is needed, as this will not affect the operation of Business Analyst. More detailed information about Vista security and other compatibility issues is available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927386 I 5. Question: Why do I have to uninstall Business Analyst 9.2 before installing Business Analyst 9.3, and what happens to all my work after I uninstall 9.2? Answer: If you had Business Analyst 9.2 with 2008 data installed on your machine, you will be prompted to keep a backup of the data. The installation will detect whether Business Analyst 9.2 with 2008 data is installed. The Business Analyst 9.3 installation will only update software components and a few data items that have been improved since the 2008 data update for Business Analyst 9.2. The uninstall will automatically back up your My Output Data folder. More information about this process can be found at the bottom of the "Projects and Data Organization > Use of Projects in ArcGIS Business Analyst" section of the ArcGIS Business Analyst Desktop Help. I 6. Question: How can I use my previous projects (trade areas, stores, and the like) with Business Analyst 9.3? Answer: Each time you uninstall Business Analyst, a backup copy of your My Output Data folder is created. The My Output Data folder becomes My Output Data_backup. When you open Business 2

Analyst from your new installation, a new My Output Data structure is automatically created. You can access your previous work in the following ways: Individual Analyses: Use this option if you only want to view individual analyses, such as trade areas, but do not want to associate them with a Project you have created. Action: Copy your individual Trade Areas folders from My Output Data_backup to My Output Data\Projects\Default Project\TradeAreas. Projects: Use this option if you want to view whole Projects that you have created. Action: Copy your Project folders from My Output Data_backup to My Output Data\Projects\. Entire My Output Data directory: Use this option if you only want to use your entire My Output Data folder from a previous installation. Action: Delete the newly created My Output Data. Rename your My Output Data_backup folder to My Output Data. I 7. Question: How do I get custom reports I created in a previous installation to show up in the current installation? Answer: Reports created in previous builds of Business Analyst can be imported into the new software update. After Business Analyst has completed installation, navigate to the directory C:\My Output Data_backup\Report Templates and copy the folders containing your custom reports into the directory C:\My Output Data\Report Templates_USA_EBIS. Now you will have access to your reports in the update. I 8. Question: The Business Analyst toolbar does not appear after Business Analyst has been opened. Answer: If the Business Analyst toolbar does not appear, you may just need to add it to the ArcGIS interface. To do so, go to View > Toolbars and scroll to and click Business Analyst. 3

I 9. Question: The Business Analyst menu is grayed out after Business Analyst has been opened. Answer: If the Business Analyst toolbar appears on screen but is grayed out, you may just need to turn it on. To activate it, go to Tools > Extensions and check Business Analyst. Alternatively, the Business Analyst extension may not be licensed. Consult the registration e mail from ESRI Customer Service and look for the Business Analyst registration code. Go to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator. Click the Register Single Use and Extensions folder in the window on the left and click the Register Now button. Check the I would like to manage my ArcView registration check box and select the I have already registered ArcView and need to register additional ArcView extensions option, then click Next. Select the Register now using the Internet option and click Next. Your registration information should appear from your previous registration of ArcView; if not, complete the required fields on both registration information pages and click Next. The ArcView registration number page will appear. Your ArcView registration number should already be entered; if not, enter it and click Next. Note: You may receive invalid registration number warnings for any ArcGIS extension that is not registered. Click OK for any of these warnings. The Register ArcGIS Extensions page will appear. Enter the Business Analyst registration number and click Next. You will see the Evaluate ArcGIS Extensions page. Select one of the options and click Next. The automatic registration process will begin. When the registration process is complete, you will receive notification of successful registration of the Business Analyst extension license. Click Finish. If you have a concurrent use license, contact service@esri.com to make sure you have received access to the Business Analyst extension in your license. I 10. Question: The Business Analyst Segmentation menu is grayed out after Business Analyst has been opened. Answer: If the Segmentation menu is grayed out, you may just need to activate it. To activate it, go to Tools > Extensions and check Segmentation Module (located under the Business Analyst Additional Data/Functionality folder). Alternatively, the Segmentation Module may not be licensed. Consult the registration e mail from ESRI Customer Service and look for the USATapestry registration code. Click the Other Extensions button located on the upper right of the page. You may receive additional warnings; click OK and proceed. In the Extension 4

Name box, enter USATapestry (this does not include any spaces). In the Registration Number box, enter the license provided in the e mail and click OK. The ArcGIS Extensions page will appear; click Next. You will see the Evaluate ArcGIS Extensions page. Select one of the options and click Next. The automatic registration process will begin. When the registration process is complete, you will receive notification of successful registration of the USATapestry license. Click Finish. If you have a concurrent use license, contact service@esri.com to make sure that you have received access to the Segmentation Module in your license. I 11. Question: All the geographic layers (States, Counties, Block Groups, etc.) have red exclamation marks next to them. Answer: The data license (*.sdlic) has not been activated or the data license is for an older dataset. Retrieve the data license from the ESRI Customer Service e mail containing licensing/registration information. Detach the *.sdlic file to the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst directory. From this directory, double click the *.sdlic file and follow the on screen instructions. I 12. Question: When I am trying to geocode, the following message appears: The geocoding service selected for this dataset is damaged. Do you want to repair it? Answer: Please ensure that all the geocoding data was installed during the installation of Business Analyst 9.3. By default, the geocoding data is installed to: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\Data\USA Geocoding Service There should be a minimum of 5.45 GB of data installed in this directory. If you do not have this much data, you can manually copy the geocoding data from Business Analyst 9.3 DVD #3. ESRI's new geocoder in ArcGIS Business Analyst 9.3 integrates an address based approach with more than 45 million residential and commercial U.S. address records from the Tele Atlas address point database. To improve geocoding precision, an actual structure location is the primary match method, followed by the street address ranges; then the ZIP Code; and, finally, the city/state. Providing geocoding data for so many address points and street segments throughout the country results in a very large set of geocoding data. In some rare cases, older DVD drives have trouble copying this much data. I 13. Question: Why is there only one Business Analyst map document (MXD)/desktop shortcut when there used to be two? Answer: Providing one desktop shortcut called "Business Analyst" simplifies the initial user experience and provides one main entry point into the software. Two default map documents are provided in the following directory: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\Data. The BA_Detailed.mxd contains highly cartographic layers and content. The Business Analyst.mxd contains less content, but is faster drawing and analysis focused. The BA_Detailed.mxd is the map document opened from the "Business Analyst" shortcut. You can also open this map document by navigating to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > Business Analyst > Business Analyst. 5

I 14. Question: I only get a report for the first trade area in my trade area layer. Answer: Make certain Crystal Reports Service Pack 2 is installed by doing the following: 1. Run the Business Analyst 9.3 guided installation (setup.exe on DVD #1). Service Pack 2 is only needed for Crystal Reports XI for ESRI If you already installed Crystal Reports XI for ESRI with Business Analyst 9.1 or 9.2 and applied the hot fixes (patches), you will not be prompted to install Service Pack 2, as it will not be needed. 2. Alternatively, you can do a manual installation of Crystal Reports XI Service Pack 2 by using the following steps: Insert Business Analyst 9.3 DVD #1. Browse to the \Crystal Reports XI\Service Pack 2 folder. Double click Setup.exe. Follow the on screen instructions to manually install Crystal Reports XI Service Pack 2. I 15. Question: Why do drive times I created in last year s data release not match drive times in the current year release? Answer: Updated street data, including the addition of new street segments, metadata, and other improvements, can result in different drive time polygons from previous years. I 16. Question: I m on Microsoft Vista and can t save a new file to c:\program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst. Answer: Users of Microsoft Vista and Server 2008 operating systems should be aware of the new "VirtualStore" functionality. This prevents users from editing or saving files underneath the "Program Files" directory or subdirectories. If you edit a file contained in the "Program Files" directory or try to save a new file under this directory, a virtual path will be created, but the actual file will be saved under C:\Users\<User_name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\<MyApp> This can potentially cause confusion because, in the case where you are using "Save As", you will not see the file under the "Program Files" directory after saving it as expected. Also, if a file is in the "VirtualStore" directory, applications will look there first instead of the location under "Program Files" even if you have copied or installed a newer version of the file under the "Program Files" directory, which can lead to potentially using the wrong file. So for Business Analyst users, it is suggested that, when making edits to related files (.mxds, etc.), you use "Save As" and save them under a directory other than "Program Files". Licensing Issues L 1. Question: How do I license/register ArcGIS and Business Analyst? Answer: Make sure that you have the registration e mail from ESRI Customer Service handy and go to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator. Click Register Single Use and Extensions and click the Register Now button. Follow the instructions on screen to complete software registration. If 6

you have a concurrent use license, from the Desktop Administrator window, click License Manager and click Change to browse to your license file. More information about software registration can be found in the Business Analyst Quick Start Guide. L 2. Question: I receive a warning message, or it appears that my data is not present in my MXD; what can I do? Answer: Many datasets in Business Analyst are locked or unlocked by a data license. This data license has a file designation of *.sdlic (smart data license) and is most often e mailed to you by ESRI Customer Service. The.sdlic file allows ESRI to license Business Analyst by individual state, region, or the entire U.S. coverage (or, for Business Analyst for Canada, by province, region, and all of Canada coverage). The data is locked due to the proprietary usage within the Business Analyst product and/or because of thirdparty agreements. NOTE: The Business Analyst data license (*.sdlic) is different than the ArcGIS licenses and registrations (UNK*). You must apply the appropriate UNK licenses before installing Business Analyst. The following datasets are controlled by the data license: ArcGIS Business Analyst (U.S.) Directory of Major Malls shopping center points infousa business locations ESRI Demographic layers Geocoding data and address locators ESRI Segmentation data Tapestry Tele Atlas Dynamap Transportation streets ArcGIS Business Analyst for Canada Rogers Publishing Canadian Directory of Shopping Centers infocanada business locations Environics Analytics Demographic layers Geocoding data and address locators Environics Analytics Segmentation data PRIZM Tele Atlas Dynamap Transportation streets How to Apply the Business Analyst Data License After you receive the data license from ESRI Customer Service, you should save the file locally to the machine where you will install Business Analyst. When the Business Analyst installation is complete, a message will prompt you to apply the data license. Simply navigate to the location where you saved the *.sdlic file and select it. If you closed the data license dialog prompt and completed the Business Analyst installation, or if you received a new license, you can apply the data license by double clicking the *.sdlic file you saved locally. How can I tell if my data license is not applied? The graphic below shows some common occurrences where the data license is not applied or not applied correctly. 7

L 3. Question: When trying to open Business Analyst, what should I do if I get one of the following messages: ArcView is not licensed, Network Analyst is not licensed, or Business Analyst is not licensed. Answer: If one of these messages appears, you have not registered your software. If you provided an e mail address at the time of ordering, you will receive an e mail and/or a letter from ESRI Customer Service with the appropriate keycodes. 8

To Register Business Analyst Single Use 1. Be sure that the ArcView Single Use software is installed. 2. Select Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Desktop Administrator. 3. Select the Register Single Use and Extensions folder. 4. Click the Register Now button. 5. Click I have already registered ArcView and need to register additional ArcGIS extensions. 6. Click Register now using the Internet. 7. Click through the next screens, entering contact information. 8. On the ArcView Registration Number page, type in the ArcView keycode for ArcView supplied via e mail or letter. Click Next. 9. On the Register ArcGIS Extensions page, type in the ArcGIS Network Analyst keycode for Network Analyst and the ArcGIS Business Analyst keycode for Business Analyst. 10. Follow the instructions on the registration wizard to complete the authorization process. Additionally, you can register via the Internet by visiting https://service.esri.com and clicking Product Registration. Follow the on screen instructions. You will receive a license file via e mail. Follow the directions for licensing the ArcGIS Business Analyst extension. To Register Business Analyst Concurrent Use 1. Go to https://service.esri.com and click Request a New License File. 2. Select Add newly purchased licenses, then ArcGIS 9.2. Click Next. 3. Follow the on screen instructions, being sure to request a license for the all the UNK codes included in your e mail and/or letter from ESRI Customer Service 4. Allow at least 24 hours to receive the license file via e mail. Save the attachment to your computer. 5. To install this license, select Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > License Manager > Update License. Browse to the license file and follow the instructions on the screen. L 4. Question: At the end of the Business Analyst 9.3 installation, I get a warning message stating Cannot install license. The license for a given data product is installed already. Answer: This warning message is displayed after you provide a data license for Business Analyst 9.3. This message will only be displayed when you are upgrading from Business Analyst 9.2 with 2008 data to Business Analyst 9.3. The message indicates that an *.sdlic data license already exists for the 2008 Business Analyst data. The datasets are the same, so you do not need to update the data license. Click OK, and you can start using Business Analyst. Crystal Reports Issues C 1. Question: Do I have to reinstall Crystal Reports if I already have it installed with Business Analyst 9.2? Answer: No, Crystal Reports is independent of ArcGIS platform versions. You are not required to reinstall Crystal Reports if you are migrating from Business Analyst 9.2 to Business Analyst 9.3. Crystal Reports is, however, a prerequisite to install Business Analyst. 9

C 2. Question: What is the Crystal Reports Settings button in the Business Analyst installation used for? Answer: The Crystal Report Settings do not need to be adjusted unless you are having difficulty installing Crystal Reports XI for ESRI (the recommended default). The image below describes and illustrates each of the Crystal Report installation settings. You should not change any of these settings unless you are unable to install Crystal Reports XI for ESRI with the default settings. C 3. Question: I receive an error installing Crystal Reports XI for ESRI and/or I am unable to Install Crystal Reports XI for ESRI. Answer: Some machines may have difficulty installing Crystal Reports XI for ESRI. This issue is usually isolated to some machines with Vista and 64 bit operating systems. If you are unable to install Crystal Reports XI for ESRI through the Business Analyst 9.3 installation, do the following: Click the Crystal Reports Settings button at the bottom of the Business Analyst Install dialog box (#1 below). Change the version of Crystal Reports to install to Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (#3 below). Click the OK button to apply the change. Click the Start Install or Next button on the Business Analyst installation screen to launch the Crystal Reports installation. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation. 10

C 4. Question: During installation of Crystal Reports XI Release 2, I am asked for a Product Key Code. What do I enter? Answer: During installation of Crystal Reports XI Release 2, enter the following product code when prompted to do so: CP20P 9S80T2G 800NW6P 9NM2 11

C 5. Question: I receive an error installing Crystal Reports Service Pack 2 and/or I am unable to install Crystal Reports Service Pack 2. If you are unable to install Crystal Reports through the Business Analyst 9.3 installation, follow the three Answers below to complete the installation. Symptoms of this issue include an error during the Crystal Reports Service Pack 2 installation, or the Business Analyst installation does not check Service Pack 2 installation as completed after the installation is finished. Answer 1: Click the Next button on the Business Analyst installation. This will test to make sure that the installation is not complete. Answer 2: By default, the Crystal Report Service Pack 2 installation is silent and will not require any input to complete. If an error is presented or the installation does not complete successfully, use the check box to enable user input in Crystal Reports Settings and relaunch the Crystal Reports Service Pack 2 setup: Click the Crystal Reports Settings button at the bottom of the Business Analyst Install dialog box (#1 below). Uncheck the checkbox to Install Crystal Reports Service Pack 2 without any user input (#3 below). Click the OK button to apply the change. Click the Start Install or Next button on the Business Analyst installation screen to launch the Crystal Reports installation. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation. 12

Answer 3: If you are still unable to install Crystal Reports Service Pack 2, you will need to install Crystal Reports XI release 2: In Windows Control Panel, use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall any previous versions of Crystal Reports. On Vista machines, this is removed through Programs and Features. When the uninstall is complete, insert the Business Analyst DVD #1. Close down the Business Analyst installation screen. Navigate to the contents of the DVD and find the Crystal Reports XI R2 folder. Open the contents of the Crystal Reports XI R2 folder and double click the Setup.exe to install Crystal Reports. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation. When the installation is complete, launch the ESRI.exe on the root of Business Analyst DVD #1 to continue the installation. Documentation Issue D 1. Question: Where do I find the documentation on Business Analyst that previously was found in the Program Files\ArcGIS\Business Analyst\Documentation directory? Answer: The Business Analyst team is constantly working to provide new and updated product documentation in the form of FAQs, technical white papers, and user guides. Because of strict release dates, it is not always possible to include certain documentation files with product media. We continuously post documentation here: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.documentation.listdocs&pid=78 You can check this location frequently to view the latest downloadable Business Analyst documentation. 13
