AHIMA: RHIA/RHIT Certification Description of AHIMA credits for RHIA/RHIT certification The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is a professional organization for health information management professionals. AHIMA sponsors certification for the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)(formerly RRA) and the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)(formerly ART). AHIMA requires that RHIAs must maintain continuing education (CE) requirements of 30 CE hours every two years and that RHITs maintain 20 CE hours every two years. Getting AHIMA credits for RHIA/RHIT certification by attending an HCPro, Inc. audioconference: Certified health information management professionals attending this AHIMA-approved audio conference program can be assured they will receive AHIMA continuing education credit. AAPC: CPC or CPC-H Certification Description of AAPC credits for CPC / CPC-H certification To maintain accreditation as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H), the American Academy of Professional Coders requires completion of 18 continuing education units (CEUs) annually. If both CPC and CPC-H credentials have been attained, 24 CEUs, per year, are necessary to maintain the status of both. In order to retain the credential of CPC or CPC-H, coding and reimbursement professionals are required to participate in continuing education coding seminars, workshops, and publications to obtain continuing education credits and maintaining competence.
