Prerequisites Because of the fast-paced nature of the course, it is recommended (but not required) that participants have at least one year of experience working in a billingrelated, administrative, or clinical position. However, the course starts with coding fundamentals and does not assume that participants have any particular background or experience. This course is taught on a basic to intermediate level.

4 LEAD INSTRUCTOR Required coding manuals Course participants will need to supply their own CPT, ICD-9-CM, and HCPCS Level II manuals. Information about ordering the required coding manuals will be sent out upon receipt of the course registration. Course fee The total course fee is $1,599, which includes all HCPro, Inc., course materials. The CPC exam is a five-hour, 150-question multiple-choice examination, which will provide you with a coding certification. The exam is optional but highly recommended. Course participants who take the exam must pay a separate exam fee (currently $260, payable directly to the AAPC), and must be AAPC members. Certified Coder Boot Camp participants may join the AAPC as student members (currently $70, payable directly to the AAPC). Course participants who pass the CPC exam within 60 days of taking the course will be awarded CEU units. Information about registering for the exam and joining the AAPC will be sent out upon receipt of your course registration. Please do not send payment for the exam or your AAPC membership fee with your course registration. If you choose not to take the exam, you may take it later through your local AAPC chapter. Visit for details. About the lead instructor Shannon McCall, RHIA, CCS, CPC, has extensive experience with coding instruction for both physician and hospital services. Prior to joining HCPro, Inc., as a consultant, she worked for Per-Se Technologies, a national medical practice management company, where she served as instructor for Per-Se s in-house coding training and certification program. She has also worked for Lexicode Corporation as a coding consultant focusing on hospital inpatient services, having successfully completed Lexicode s rigorous in-house consultant training program. Shannon is accredited as a Registered Health Information Administrator and a Certified Coding Specialist by the American Health Information Management Association. She is also accredited as a Certified Professional Coder and is an approved instructor of the Professional Medical Coding Curriculum by the American Academy of Professional Coders. Shannon holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
