JOB DESCRIPTION QUESTIONNAIRE FOR SUPPORT STAFF JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: Assistant Systems Administrator Technical Services Manager 1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To support the delivery of IT services across the Trust. To understand methods, processes and policies that are essential in the delivery and maintenance of a secure IT service to a community of young people. 2. DIMENSIONS The post holder is not responsible for managing a budget or a team of staff. 1

3. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems. Maintain system efficiency, network and system security. Ensure design of system to allow components to work properly together. Troubleshoot problems reported by users. Work with a team of IT Professionals to provide support services to all members of the Trust Make recommendations for future upgrades. Working with the Technical Services Manager, plan and manage changes to IT systems using appropriate industry methodology, minimising risk to services. Keep abreast of industry developments which will meet the needs of the Trust and ensure that MKET exploits appropriate developments to deliver effective educational services Analyse and isolate issues. Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users. Document network support activities and ensure full backups of data. Work with the members of the team to ensure other technology systems including telephony, audio-visual and CCTV systems are appropriately maintained and developed. Evaluate and modify system's performance. Work with the Systems Administrator (Server & Client) to deliver fully supported ICT Services Ability and knowledge to monitor and engage with contractors and contractual service providers, to ensure the service is to contract. Identify user needs. Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security. Ensure network connectivity throughout a company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations. Design and deploy networks. Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services. Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers. Maintain network servers such as file servers, intrusion detection systems. Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, personal digital assistants, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches. 2

Willing to work flexible hours to include some evenings and weekends when necessary to maintain systems and deliver new functionality. 4. Also, please indicate whether the post reports to, or attends committee meetings. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager and would be supervised on a daily basis. 3

5. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS What kind of education, qualifications and experience are necessary to enable for the post holder to perform the job fully and effectively? Note that this information should relate to the knowledge and experience required for the job, which may not be the same as the post holders own qualifications, etc. Please also refer to skills, if possible, for example; keyboard skills, report writing skills, leadership skills, effective speaking skills. Qualifications Knowledge ESSENTIAL Knowledge of VMWare, Hyper-V, Microsoft infrastructure systems, including Windows 2012, Windows 7, Sharepoint, Office 365. Knowledge of IT client services, Network Services including IP networks, Firewalls, DNS and Network Security. DESIRABLE Hold professional certification in a related discipline eg CCNA, MCSA, Hold professional certification in a related discipline eg VCD-DCV Knowledge of Microsoft system design and configuration, especially SCCM. Knowledge of IT and Network security. Understand both defense and monitoring techniques. Knowledge of modern techniques for the management of service resilience and disaster recovery configuration. Knowledge of key IT management methodologies such as ITIL 4

Experience Skills Special Requirements Knowledge of current trends in the ICT industry Ability to engage with end users in a positive way to manage issues and to enhance their experience of using the systems. Ability to plan and design coherent IT systems that deliver appropriate services. Ability to understand and exploit new technology to deliver benefit to the school Ability to work with third party support organisations to resolve issues Ability to convey / train / enthuse users of IT Services to use them effectively Ability to listen to users and gather effective feedback to ensure systems are delivering appropriate service All staff must follow the MKET Code of Conduct. Work hours will be flexible and will include some evening and weekend working to ensure appropriate service levels are maintained. Commitment to uphold MKET s Equalities and Health and Safety Policies. Experience in Virtualisation, Networking and Microsoft Systems. Experience of using operational management techniques Note: certification of the skills listed preferred, backed by practical experience of applying the relevant skills e.g. Microsoft certificates, PRINCE2, ITIL, M_o_R.
