REASONS WHY FEW AMERICAN STUDENTS STUDY ABROAD IN VIETNAM VIETNAM attracts fewer than 1,000 US students annually: Why? It s too far Isn t that the place that a war happened? They must hate us. Is it safe? Vietnam? What is there to do there? Vietnam? Will anyone speak English? Vietnam? Just never thought of it and how can it tie into my major? And, in my humble opinion, faculty tend to gravitate to places where: a. They themselves studies abroad b. Have a clear and easy academic connection in terms of academic discipline, syllabi, coursework, institutional partners, etc. c. Everyone else has gone already or is going to (no knock on Florence with its three dozen programs, London, Paris, Spain etc. since those are fabulous places)
