LEIPZIG LEIPZIG Leipzig is well-known for its industrial fair, the Leipziger Messe. In fact, the first trade exposition was held in 1190, making Leipzig one of the world s oldest fair towns. It is also a cultural hub thanks to German composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy who worked in the Saxon city. In 1989 Leipzig Eastern German civil opposition started the so-called Monday Demonstrations, which became a public symbol of criticism of the political system and ultimately led to the collapse of the German Democratic Republic and the reunification of Germany. Today the city of 560.000 inhabitants is still famous as a trade fair town, as the site of Germany s second oldest universities, and as one of the country s greenest towns approximately 50% of it is covered by parks, gardens or woods. The Leipzig University celebrated its 600th anniversary in 2009. One can visit many historic and very modern sites of this excellent scientific place.

Furthermore the room prices include a free-of-charge ticket for all public passenger transport in Leipzig. The InterCity Hotel Leipzig enjoys a central yet totally peaceful location, just a step away from countless attractions. Everything is within easy walking distance including the Gewandhaus concert hall, the opera house, a wealth of museums and galleries, the main railway station, interesting shopping arcades and the legendary pub districts. In addition to SAT-TV with free Sky channels and WiFi the 166 tastefully furnished rooms offer an ideal atmosphere of wellness great to relax after a strenuous appointment or an exciting sightseeing tour. Leipzig as City of Music Leipzig s reputation as city of music is unquestioned. Bach, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Schumann, Wagner, Lortzing and Mahler worked here among others. The St. Thomas Boys Choir and the Gewandhaus Orchestra are also to be mentioned. The St. Thomas Boys Choir performs on a regular basis in the St. Thomas s Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach once worked as choirmaster and composer. The concert hall, the so-called Gewandhaus, is particularly renowned for the orchestra for which it is home, the illustrious Gewandhausorchester. The Orchestra is one of the oldest and most famous German concert orchestras. The Leipzig Opera traces its establishment to the year 1693, making it the third oldest opera venue in Europe. Today, Leipzig s Opera House boasts one of the best ballet companies in Europe, an opera choir, a children s choir and a ballet school.

SOCIAL & CULTURAL RECOMMENDATIONS Musical Events during the course period St. Thomas Church January 17 th 06:00 p.m. Evening service with organ Gewandhaus / Orchestra Hall Leipzig January 18 th 08:00 p.m. Swanlake - Russian Ballet Company January 19 th 08:00 p.m. The Blues Brothers Opera House Leipzig January 17 th 06:00 p.m. Madame Butterfly Gewandhausorchester Leipzig today By now respectable, well-known companies like BMW, Porsche and DHL have chosen Leipzig as location of their business. A reason on the one hand is of course the highly modern and excellent infrastructure of the region. On the other hand they are surely conscious about finding a new environment where modernity is combined with tradition and history. The Porsche as well as the BMW companies offer fascinating tours through their factories. We will also gladly assist you with short-trip arrangements to Berlin or Dresden.
